Hi All might be a very dumb question but where else can i get so many wise people in one place to answer it for me!!!!

If you have a 29er bike can you put 26" wheels on????

Reason for asking.... Thinking of getting a 29er but occasionally i do some road riding so could i put my 26" wheels on it? :whistling:

Thanks

I don't see why not. It'll look funny as hell but should work....

Post a pic....

Are you only wanting to put on 26 inch wheels cos you have them spare?

Yes you could put the wheels on, but I am sure you would not want to.

I sometimes get these amazing visions of the future and I foresee a nice tight corner (On the roadie ride with this set up) and you pedal through the corner ... I see a pedal strike on the inside leg as you have lowered you BB height now... I see a cyclist flung 3, no 5 meters into the air and landing on and killing a tiny poodle being walked by a Sandton Koogal ... I see you being then further battered by said lady whilst lying on the ground, beaten with a designer handbag with lots of bling, bling that cuts into your skin and tears you apart ...

Well you get the idea

Yes it is a dumb question... Remember when you upgrade (like so many people like saying) you are doing just that, moving up.... There's no going back to BMX wheels when you've been to the Circus my friend, if you know what I mean.... Prepare yourself for a lot of jealous stares and snide comments from people you do know and people you do not want to know. After all 29er's are superior. Your skill and speed will definitely improve (as some say) and you will become a better person. There is no room for mediocrity in this world. Heck you might even meet the boy or girl of your dreams on board a 29er.... That's enough from me, I'm off to ride my 69er. 29ers are so yesterday.... Out.

Roadies have been riding 29" (700c) rims for many years, unless you are a smaller lady or triathlete who use 650B wheels since before it became the next big thing amongst MTBers.

Not sure you'll succeed in starting a 26" craze amongst the black top riders ;)

Remember that the potholes are allegedly getting bigger and bigger :whistling:

I suggest selling the 26" wheel set and getting a second 29" wheel set (unless you're actually keeping the 26" bike of course). Road tyres fit on the 29" MTB rims without a problem (I use 28mm to be safe) and although it looks strange, it works well enough. When necessary, I have a dual suspension road bike with disc brakes :)
