Steering tube replacement on SID RLT

Can anybody help with this. Can get a SID for silly cheap but the steering tube is too small.

 

Not sure which year it is but its an 80mm version RLT.

as far as I know , you have to buy the whole crown assembly which is not cheap. R2,5k or so

I just dont trust these solutions to be honest. Used one in the past and you simply cant get the headset locked down properly.

Not too keen to drop the front of the bike by 30mm or to lose out on 20mm travel.

 

It really is a pity. The SID is bloody light.

is it a sid with a carbon or ali crown ali one i might have a solution.

Not 100% sure. Says RLT on the brace and it is a 100mm travel unit. Missed that bit earlier.

 

The steering tube is gold in colour and feels like alu.

 

Not the faintest clue what year it is.

Dangerous, but if you can find a guy that knows his welding, slot a tight piece of tube on the inside of the existing steerer, about 1 inch in, 1 inch exposed. Weld it. Slot an off-cut piece of steerer over the stub (most bike shops will have steerer offcuts, weld it again. I've done that to some of my frames, not forks yet though.

Not going to risk that. Lol

 

Bought a Reba Team instead. Better suited to my riding style and bike setup than the SID.

 

Who wants a cheap SID RLT with a fair bit of cosmetic damage? Seems to be in perfect working order
