At Clarens this year, a top female rider got her chain properly stuck. Apparently no-one was able to extract it using brute force (yes, she was good looking and had plenty guys stop to give assistance). I stopped to help (I needed the stop to deal with cramps, and was near the back of the field anyway). My solution was to break the chain (she had no idea what a chain breaker is) and was about rejoin the links (with the jammed bits cut out) when the organisers arrived to pick her up in a bakkie. Goes to show that there are plenty riders out there, who don't know the basics, and who have no idea how to "maak 'n plan" when needed.

Oooh, have I mentioned that I once was lucky enough to catch a beautiful damsel that went over her handlebars. Truly a case of being in the right place at the right split second. It got me a hug and it saved her some scratches and bruises. Fair exchange methinks. Why don't you girls offer better rewards for fixing punctures?

Classic!

Very important....When you use it, do not grip it like a joy stick(or whatever you grip in that manner)! It WILL freeze to your hand and burn like hell(will maybe take some skin). Hold it with a cloth or something...

Or get the bombs that come with a cover.

YES! never remove your gloves when using a bomb...it goes to like -212312342 in an instant.

Reminds me a classic I encountered the other day. Came a across a guy who was even larger than me (ok - considerably larger) whose chain had broken. Stopped to help him as he proclaimed his multi-tool didn't have a chain break, but that he did have a chain link. So as I take my multi tool out, he seriously tells me that he has the exact same one at home, but that he didn't take it along for this ride as he was trying to save some weight!!!!

mmmm just got me thinking, tips for "bombing" a tyre:

1.Never remove gloves when using a bomb

2.Get the bigger bombs...not the roadie mini ones

3.Make sure the adapter's valve is closed before screwing the bomb in

Thank you for one of the better laughs I've had in a long time ...
