Yeah. but from initial reports from the top guys the strong sidewalls are still very much of a concern If you're fast or big, due to the ridling at speed in the corners. Some of them have had to increase pressure slightly to combat the dreaded tire roll.

This is why it is still not on the market?

I would not run with "much" lesser pressure, than now. I run 1,8bar on Racing Ralph and would may drop to 1,5 and Nobby Nic with 1,7 bar and would may drop to 1,4.

That should not give to much tire roll?

Turns out the Procore is not so new it's been used on motorbikes for a long time already.

Yes, but it seems to be more trickier on a bicycle .... than on a motorbike?

yea a motorbike has a very wide rim which helps.

No, it's on the market. but being a big guy I know what it feels like to have a tire roll underneath me so I understand the need for pressures that are still high enough and sidewalls that are strong enough to alleviate this. the ProCore system should go some way to alleviate roll, Though.

the combo im running at the moment is probably the one im gonna stick with till i actually need to replace them. xking 2.4 rear. minion dhf 2.5 upfront. together they roll fine. not as fast as the ardents upfront but man can that minion grip. there is however an issue. an issue that im sure the right rear tyre can probably sort out but i wont risk changing it just yet. theres this dead spot in the grip of the minion when riding off camber stuff or turning at certain angles. you lean, lean, lean and it grips, grips grips, then for what is probably a nano second it feels like it might slide out ever so slightly then once you lean some more it grips again. the minions love super low pressures. not sure exactly what psi i have them at. i trust my palms enough to know how i want my tyres to feel. ive never slid out though. not once. just feels like it will. a little unnerving but you learn to trust it. i will buy the minion for the front again.

@ popcorn_skollie  I believe, tire choice is very much personal choice.

There are some combination that want work, but over all ... there is not rely a bad tire on the market, as long as it is not misused according to there specification.

The situation you describe, is maybe the point as the inner tread loses the contact and your outer (end) tread has to take the full grip????

Can't wait to get rid of t HD's. Like riding on slicks in the Cape Summer.

The HD's that bad?

They seem to be gaining a bad rep lately.

I desperately need to replace my rear tyre and that tyre has slowly fallen down the list, near the top now is a Nobby Nic.

IMO, the HD is like a Kenda Nevegal: VERY pressure sensitive. Once you've figured it out, it works well enough, but the mission to get that pressure is just a total PITA. The new Nobby Nic is what the HD should've been. Pity Schwalbe doesn't sell the new NN in SG. Not a requirement, but it would've been nice.

So even for a rear rather look elsewhere?

Loads of ppl loved the nevegals, i personally don't. So wrt the HD,which is not a horrible tyre, you have to make up your own mind.

HD isn't a terrible tyre, I just don't think it's a summer tyre. It is fantastic when the trails are moist-wet. just doesn's hook up as well in the dry loose stuff. I have been running them at 1.8 Bar, super g & pace star.

I am removing this week to try some new rubber for summer, I will refit the HD for winter.

The HD pacestar does seem to wear fast on the rear. Front is showing signs of side knob tears even though the centre tread looks newish.

The HD's were fine in Morzine where the trails were snotty/loamy.

Riding them in Paarl/Stellies/Welvanpas in the summer is less ideal.

Going to move to Butcher front and Ground Control Grid / Ardent rear. Not paying R800 a tyre again if I can help it.

Was also looking at that combo, the hd sg is very heavy so I need to drop it.

Was at spez shop to check the tyres, pricing is great but my only concern is the sidewall, they don't feel that solid and now riding with carbon rims I would hate for a sidewall tear, which I hear does happens when pushing spez tyres through the rough, I ride conties so I think the possibility would be even greater. Paarl is not that gnarly wrt rocks so they should be ok.
