For the newbies (or those with a short term memory loss), refer to the 2009, 2010 and 2011 versions to see how the competition works.

First place in the competition will win 1x flex air 200mm off-road scooter,

courtesy of Micro Scooters South Africa.

The 3 other jersey winners (Green, White and Polka Dot) will each win a Special limited edition shooter, all in yellow!

Plus 3 others will also get a chance to win one of the novelty shooters

- the person who accumulated the most points in one stage from their picks;

- the Lantern Rouge

- one lucky draw (all names into a hat and drawn on video in case anyone has any objection).

Rule 1: This is a friendly competition, mistakes do happen but will be corrected as soon as humanly possible. The winner will be the person with the highest total at the end of the Tour. This person will have bragging rights for as long as he/she desires, and there's nothing you can do about it.

The short version explained

Pick 9 riders, any nine riders from the start list - as per the official list on the Tour's Official Website

Pick 3 teams, any three teams from the start list

*NEW* Pick 3 reserve riders, in the event that a bunch crash results in withdrawn riders - more about this below *NEW*

Send your list by PM or post on this thread topic before 14:00 on 30 June 2012

Check back every day to see how your selected riders/teams bring you points.

Right, how do you score points?

The long version explained

First you must pick 9 riders (any 9 riders) from the starter's list.

Pick from the official starters list, which will be published in a post below once available on the official TdF website (www.letour.fr - the english version)

You can change your 9 riders as often as you like, but must be before 14:00 on Saturday, 30 June 2012!!

If you loose a rider during the Tour (injury, doping, retiring, missed cut off, etc.), sorry for you - that's how we've always played it.

Then you must choose three teams from the 22 teams listed below (next post) - this gets you 1 point per day if you picked right.

Then you sit back and hope to hell that the team you've picked is worth their weight in gold, as that's the only way you'll score points.

Points are awarded as follows:

1. Stage placings - individual placing

2. Daily points - Jersey holders (the person who leads that category only) and GC positions at that point in time

3. Overall GC - at the end of the Tour

1. Stage placing (all stages)

Daily Stage placings (21 stages, 15 points per stage)

1st 5 points

2nd 4 points

3rd 3 points

4th 2 points

5th 1 point

2. Daily Points

Daily GC
(21 stages, 15 points per stage - 20 stages + the Prologue)

1st 5 points

2nd 4 points

3rd 3 points

4th 2 points

5th 1 point

Jersey holders
(21 stages, 6 points per stage)

Yellow 1 point

Green 1 point

Polka Dot 1 point

White 1 point

Aggressive 1 point (not a jersey, but a red number)

Team 1 point (not a jersey, but a yellow number)

3. Overall GC (only awarded at the end of the Tour, 53 points)

1st 20 points

2nd 15 points

3rd 10 points

4th 5 points

5th 3 points

In short, there will be 36 points on offer each day (1 & 2 above), plus 53 points right at the end of the Tour (3 above)

If an aggressive rider is not awarded on any of the days for whatever reason, then points won't be awarded accordingly.

The spreadsheet will be available after each stage to check your points.

New RULE!! (2012/06/26)

Should one of your selected riders crash out of the tour, due to a bunch crash, or outside influence (a vehicle bumping him into a barbed wire fence), and they're unable to continue, the your first choice substitute will be allowed to replace the rider from the next stage and score points from that stage onwards. This will hopefully keep the interest for most of the competition.

Tie Breakers

Substitutes will also help decide a tie:

1. If there's a tie, the person with the least number of substitutes will win;

2. If still a tie, the person with the most points scored for the unused substitutes will win;

3. If still a tie, then the person with the most team points will win;

4. If still a tie, the person with the most points on the GC will win, followed by Green, Polka Dot, White and Most Aggressive Rider points.

hopefully by then we'll have a clear winner.

Right, now all you have to do is...

Pick 9 riders and 3 teams

Send this via PM, or by posting on this thread.

With about 6 or 7 good contenders for the GC it will be an awesome game. The KOM, Best Young Rider and Team classification is also wide open this year. Thanks Geraldm24.

Ps. Your first post says 2011 and that might confuse some newbies, maybe edit it to 2012 ;)

Decided to rebrand myself - all my usernames on various social media sites into one common name...

Twitter won, as Frosty was already taken, together with the SASeeding number board - someone else registered "Frosty"

Just checked last years comp. Are you gonna get some more crazy cool prizes this year again?? I'm entering regardless!

Suggestion: Since we are not allowed changes after the start, how about choosing two reserve riders as well. With all the crashes last year I think I only had 5 guys left in my team by the time we got to Paris!

Make it a rule that a reserve can only replace a team mate if that team mate crashed out of the tour ... Not if he was DQ'ed for missing the cutoff time, held onto a car, headbutted someone or whatever. Injury only

Two reserve names with the other 9 team mates. Reserve one fills the first opening, two the second. If your reserves crashed out already, then tough luck!

What say you?
