MTBR made a ruling when guys posted cr@p like the OP, removed the thread from the 29er thread and made a 650b thread for the intellectually challenged.

Sorry if I offended anyone by posting this article and possibly opening the whole wheel size debate again. It was merely intended to shed some light on the whole "maybe" aspect of the 650B and the fact that independent manufacturers are going this way....

So, moderators, close it down if so required.

Cheers

The issue with new standards is parts. Go to your local bike shop and ask for a 27.5' tire or rim strip and you might come up short. Of course, if it takes off then that problem will fix itself.

I could see myself buying a 27.5' trail bike, but I already have a 26' trail bike and its great.

I see no place for 27.5 / 650B. And as you can see, a 27.5 is allot closer to 26'er than to 29'er - they are not "in the middle". Either you have a 26'er for XC racing IF THE COURSE IS SUITED TO THAT, or you have a 29'er for Marathon racing IF THE COURSE IS SUITED TO THAT, with a whole lot of overlap in the middle.

I can see an small advantage in the 29'er craze, BUT adding ANOTHER wheel into the mix is really stupid. Marketing people... marketing. We were all happy with 26'ers for YEARS... What do the big corps do when sales start dwindeling and they sukkel to get new guys to enter the sport and buy bikes... lets target the guys already in the sport and convince then that their current 26'er is now worth nothing and you need a bike with 28.61" wheels to really go fast. And hey, while your are buying another bike Mr. Sucker Fish, this here 27.5" bike is better suited to this and that course.

SPECIALIZED (Sam Benedict, MTB Product Marketing): It’s not new to riders, we looked at, and tested, it years ago and continue to pay attention to it. This latest surge is coming from the manufacturers though, not the riders which is interesting.

KENDA (Ben Anderson, MTB PR):

The sudden interest in all being driven by the OEM segment of the market. Aftermarket and end consumers are not the driving force and are in some cases sitting back, puzzled by this sudden burst of excitement in 650B.

TOMAC (Joel Smith, Owner): Companies looking to grow their sales and differentiate it’s brand. It’s obvious the 29er market has matured and is saturated, so there’s few places to go to grow sales.
