When I ride on the road find my heart rate is higher and do it for longer as it were - guess this is what saddle times means and why it is so good - now how can one relate this to gym work - to burn the same calories say between 1500 and 2000 you would need to train for 2 hours in gym right ?

with this in mind there must be a relation between calories and weight loss - lets ignore the eating less factor as that aint gonna happen - still not dropping weight so alternative is to train longer and burn more calories

Now with this in mind is there a scientific calculation to do this? ie to create this defecate ?

Ok and then once we have this equation what is the best way to burn these calories most effectively in gym for you ? while also benefiting cycling ?

depends but normally your heart rate will not be as high in the gym on average. I normally burn around 1500 calories in 2 hour training ride so you would need more than this in the gym , I would say at least three hours.

But all of this is erelative as we do not know your heart rate, weight etc to determine, Get a heart rate monitor with fairly accurate calorie function wear it and it will tell you.

You create enough defecate and you will lose heaps of weight.

Accepted wisdom is: If you train at high intensity you wont burn as much fat as you will at moderate intensity; your body cant convert it fast enough.

Then there's the trade off ie you have to be out there a lot longer at moderate intensity.

I've found its a lot easier to lose weight by not putting stuff in your gob in the first place, rather than try to work it off after the event.

Thanks, its a gift

Oh, and I'm about the same as you by looks of things and its a constant battle.

At the mo' I'm doing 9 hours a week training without changing diet and am losing 0.5kg a week. So I reckon its !@##@! tough to do it through exercise alone, regardless of what the calori-ometers say.

Does such a thing exist? Surely all are guestimates at best?

wont say i am an expert but struggle to get weight down for long now, i can train 90 mins a day and burn 1000/1500calories a day just on excercise with no result.

some say

- your body over time adjusts to excercise

- diet 80% / excercise 20% for weight control

- for some weight/resistance training is better than cardio - i find combining swimming with cycling worked in the past

also love my food and beer/red wine but seems upping excercise alone dont do it and some eating / driking compromises will be needed :(ive now dropped the alcohol and track better what i eat, lets see

NB ; fatsecret.co.za very good counts cals, balance between protein, carb and fat and count in excercises

Alcohol intake resists weight loss .Avoid totally!

I think you are talking kiloJoules here not Calories. To burn 1800 Calories in 90 minutes almost impossible in the gym and you need to be very fit to actually achieve this.

You dont look like you have a problem, but then again, "black with guns" is a very slimming look.

30 Days ago i took up the 70 Day Challenge to get stronger and lose weight.

I have been doing weights that i thought only body builders did and i am much stronger than 4 weeks ago.

4 Weeks ago i couldn't do 15 sit ups or 5 push ups.i now do 5 set of 25 sit ups and 5 sets of 15 push ups.My 5 kay run time has also come down and in 30 days i have now lost 12 kg's.

It's been very very hard but weights and a good diet do help to lose weight and get you stronger.

Diet is basically 80% protein,25% carbs and 5% fat.

Thanks rouxjtie

I run 3 times a week,cycle 3-4 times a week,swim twice a week and gym 5 days a week.

Daily calorie intake is about 1200-1300 and i am burning about 1800-3500 a day, depending on cycle distance.

Avg heart rate is about 70% except for interval work.
