I prefer mtb races, the guy in front most of the time working the hardest to win actually wins. Not all this points based bullsh!t.

Yeah, unless you're Burry, then the okes in front collapse and die, and you cruise through...

At the end of the day you cant compare a pure sprinter to a pure climber (also a TT specialist).

Cavendish should be compared to Zabel ,McEwan,Cippo etc

And LA to Eddy, Indurain,Lemond etc.

Will he pull out of the tour after 2 weeks to recover for the Olympics? Love watching him go and I can't see anyone hanging with him on the sprints in this edition of the tour.

Yeah, also heard he might pull out after 2 weeks for the Olympics. Think his stage wins should only count if he finishes the tour.

A few years ago Tom Boonen did the same, got a few stage wins and then pulled out to recover for some other event

I fully agree and Cavendish still doesn't match McEwan in his day ;)

Don't see Wheelsuck Sagan thanking team mates for a win they did not help him with, but Cav does it in any case.

Just FYI...

Early of 2012 Sagan unofficially announced prolongation of his contract with Liquigas till 2014. In the contract, signed prior Vuelta a España, Sagan exchanged better financial benefits for a possibility to have his brother Juraj on the team. Source - Wikipedia

Sometimes you have to do what you need to do... 14 wins this season for Sagan already... He had to compete with other seasoned racers ("wheelsuckers") for his wins in any case...

I think you are being a bit short-sighted here. You sit on your chair watching these guys having no clue what their bodies really go through. We have enough issues with drugs already than to make it harder and all the sprinters have to drag themselves over the mountains to earn their stage win.

How are they then going to present medals...all at the end (Yawn)?

Well if they only want stage wins and drop out because they can't handle it, maybe they should be more selective in their races and concentrate on the one day classics. The grand tours are 3 week events and the aim is to finish it, not pick up a stage win and drop out.

The sprinters are the sub-plot to the main event. They provide the explosive entertainment in amongst the long haul for the GC title.

The colour and excitement justifies them being there and coming and going as they need to.

Its maybe like 20:20 cricketers appearing for a few overs during a test match.

Great contrast and variety.

&, did I mention - Cavendish is the business?

He deserves that....loved his comments in his interview, "bonus rider", "had to be plucky"....

what interview??..he spoke for 5 minutes and said nothing...Sagan does not have the team to back him up and has no other option but to sit behind other teams lead out trains. You cant expect him to form his own line next to the other teams trains??!!

I am more of a Sagan fan...
