Gear:

1-That nice giant SS of yours

2-helmet

3-cleats

4-Costume

5-that engel you bragged about

6-beers.

Hahaha.

Just kidding.

I have ridden there twice on my SS both times I ran 32:18 and I kakked off but only had to push up the last bit of "the gulley". Your a lot stronger than me and you could probably run that gear but depending on how serious you are congestion could mess with your momentum making it a tough day.

Personally I'm running a 32:20 but not gonna set any records just gonna enjoy the vibe and the beer stops.

Sweet , ya no record breaking niether just some fun out .

run a 32/16 almost every where so maybe 32/18 .

or i take a spanner in my back pocket with the 20 and change on route , think they nwill let you do that :whistling:

Nah you'll be good with 18 might need a run up on some spots. Not sure of the exact route though.

JHB must be really flat or you are really strong to run a 32:16 on a 29'er SS ... won't be that easy in CT to run that!

Heard a little birdie whistle that the route is going to be a good and fun challenge for everybody.

Will be running a 32x19 since this is the biggest sprocket I own.

The route is the same as the Thaba Thoughee route. I rode it on Saturday on a 32x19 and was broken by half way. The second half of the route has more steeps than the first half. Needless to say, I'm gearing up to a 20 rear cog and will try it again on Saturday.

The only advice I can give is don't run a gear to impress other ssers. You'll suffer and the big boys dont impress easy. Run a nice light gear so you can enjoy the ride. The lightest I got is 32:20 and that's what I running. Enjoy the journey.

Let me try the course this weekend and make a call. Can always just get a 20t during the next few weeks.

When are you planning to ride there? I'll be there at 7 on Saturday.

Will be later in the day only. Will chat to the wife and see what time she wants to go. I know we have some stuff to do during the day.

Might be worth going early.

I currently run a 32/18 and find it quite easy on the modders course, maybe a 32/16 there.

never ridden thaba so dont know how they compare. unless advised otherwise, going for a 32/20 for the day.

going to do a ride there soon to see how it goes with the 32/18. take it from there
