GoPro must have some seriously good marketing behind them, because I cannot fathom how someone would choose strapping a boeing to their cycle helmet as opposed to using a Contour who's quality and features in my opinion, far surpasses it!

http://contour.com

The Contour is quite slick, but my biggest gripe with it is apparent lack of mounting options. I stand corrected but the shape doesn't lend itself to a chest mount for example.

Apart from the GPS model, what features are there in addition to the GoPro.

Though GoPro is way overpriced in SA as already stated

GoPro is distributed by omnico? So it's the same general markup as cannondale/gt etc.

There are quite a few mounting options, but I could imagine a chest mount wouldn't be so hot for the Contour :P As mentioned the size is a big factor for some, the contour is pretty discreet, whilst it lacks a LCD to see anything the standard version has 2 alignment lasers to get your camera pointed where you want it. Other flavours have built in GPS to marry your video to location, or Blutooth to use your Android/iPhone as a viewfinder or to change settings.

I also mentioned the lenses/filters which can be swapped on it. The controls are pretty easy to manipulate as well even with winter gloves on, just slide part of the frame to start or stop recording, it also beeps to let you know what it's doing :)

From all the people I have spoken to they seem to be great units and I'm not having any doubts about its capabilities and durability , but the price variation is my gripe .

Thanks for the feed back

.

With you there!

Hey guys.

In terms of pricing, we understand that some are frustrated due to 'inflated' local pricing when compared to international pricing. As some have pointed out, international prices do not generally include sales tax so this is a consideration, as well as shipping and insurance on your parcel. Should it be nabbed by customs, you're in for some more there.

Please bare in mind that the local pricing includes all the relevant local infrastructure, including a support staff to handle all queries, provide telephonic support, courier costs for returns if required, any warranties, etc, as well as a sponsorship programme, development programmes and event support. These all add to the costs over and above the regular customs, shipping, insurance, etc that are required to get the units here for you. Do you really want to deal with a US or European call centre for your camera questions?

For support, locally purchased units offer a quicker turn-around due to reduced paperwork and complications with verification of origin of the unit - reducing cost to you and ensuring you're out there shooting your Heroism in HD sooner rather than later. Internationally purchased units also attract an 'International Warranty Handling Fee' to help cover the costs of the supply chain and support services.

Regarding specs & comparisons, we can't deny that there are some great competitive products out there. However, take a look at the recent Gizmodo review - http://gizmodo.com/5...t-action-camera - which speaks for itself.

The stills photos are captured using an 11MP sensor and are regularly used for the covers of magazines, posters and other advertising. In fact, Zig Zag magazine is currently running a competition looking for the best onboard shot with a GoPro to use as their January edition. No print media outlet would do this if it weren't up to scratch. There are, obviously, factors that will contribute to a better photo like movement [shake], lighting, etc.

Seems you guys are not the only guys bringing in GoPro!

Being GoProSA are you guys the official channel? or are the more. I know I can order myself direct from GoPro.

How come these guys have this and you don't?

Sounds like I'm attacking, sorry. Just a lot of questions

Hey chaps

OMNICO [ie: we] are the official importer & distributor of GoPro in South Africa and sell to a group of approved or "authorised dealers"... DLVR is not one of them!

Yes, we do have the Dive Housing and ALL other accessories compatible with the HD HERO & HD HERO2 cameras. Our website is busy being re-developed and will be live by 1 August... and will contain all the latest products and info. Sorry for the confusion on that one.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread but have a look at these, the CamOne Infinity (www.camone.co.za) as an alternative. Comes with a built-in LCD screen to see what you are shooting with playback capability. Menu is similar to using a DSLR camera so you can change all menu settings without the need to use the manual to figure out what you are doing.

Get the bundle for R3200.00 incl. shipping when you use the coupon: HUBSACOIN01

While there is a couple of other camera's out there, I don't believe one of them come close to the go pro, all the mountings, and ruggedness of the go pro is unrivalled, imo, and then there's all the extra's, lcd backpack, the wifi backpack etc.

That's said, SA prices are a rip off.

If you got someone who can bring it in from the US, opt for that option first. Got the rest of my bits & bobs directly from GoPro US (shipped to family & they bought it over to SA), local prices are way to steep. They could sell more at a better price...

Awesome camera!
