Other rims are also available and my LBS can build me up a set of NoTube Flows on Hope Hubs with Double Butted spokes for under 6k and far less if I use my current hubs (2.5 - 3K mark). I know this as I am currently considering the same due to my rim being cracked on the back wheel and my spokes and nipples being fused together due to corrosion.

Hi

i also recently enquired about this.

its a costly affair only suitable rims are American Classics retail for R6500 ex vat

Tyres and tubeless conversion ranges from R1200 till R 1500

you also need to change your Fork to the Fox fork cos only a Fox fork will work on the 27,5 tires.

total costs will be in the region of R 10,000.00 plus

Thats what my LBS told me last week.

I see your problem.

Good Price from a good LBS!

That price excludes tyres though ... these look to be rather pricey at the moment!

My mate, whos bike they don't fit on was going to be paying R7500 with Stans hubs, also no tyres.

Mine cost as follows:-

Rims - 2*890 (ZTR Crest)

Hubs - 450 (2nd hand XT off the Hub but in excellent condition)

Spokes - 950

Build - 180 (including nipples but it was my SiL ;) )

Tyres - 2 * 650

4660

Tjoopless, I had Stans tape and sealant .......

On my Specialized Epic 2010 carbon comp, frikkin lovin' it :)

Which tyres are you using on that build please?

Variations to your costing above would be

Build at R150 per wheel

Spokes at R350 per wheel with brass nipples

Hubs would be my current hub from the Bonti wheelset (essentially DT Swiss hubs)

Rims would be Flows at about the same price you have above

So around the R2780 mark for me excluding tyres and R4080 with tyres based on your build.

Why not?

The increase is 12mm in height, how much that makes a difference is yet to be determined.

Why not? I see the words "can't afford" in the original post. The difference between a proper 26" and a 26" frame with 650b wheels is yet to be determined.

I thought you were refering to why would you want to do it, my bad.

The geometry does not change, only the step over height and BB height changes. You could never know how its going to handle/ change unless you try I guess?

There are a very frames that are compatible - Zula/Spark ect.

There is however a much cheaper option - 27.5/650B wheel are in fact 27.3.

If you take a 26" with high volume tyres like Kenda Slant six you end up with a 27.23.

It depend on how much that .5 inch is worth to you.

Fair comment, but if you can also get a large volume tyre onto a 650b wheelset with your frame and fork, then that argument is negated.
