Im running A Sram PG 1070 Cassette with an X9 rear Derailluer. Also Sram crank. Sram X9 Shifters.

Now since sram Cassettes are so damn expensive can i run an XT cassette?

yep. Only things that aren't compatible are the read derailleur / shifter combos. Shimano FD can be run by SRAM shifter and vice versa. Rear derailleurs have different actuation ratios, so have to have their own brand of shifter.

i thought that if you run sram shifters, you only need to run sram cassette(9speed) the RD doesnt matter because of the cable pull comes from the shifter.

10 speed everything is compatible.

No, you cant mix sram shifters with shimano rear mechs, the actuation (indexing) is different.

Besides, its gay to mix.

Nope. Cassettes are cassettes are cassettes. The SRAM acts on 1:1 actuation (for every 1mm the cable moves, the RD moves 1mm) whereas the Shimano stuff uses 2:1 actuation and as such both the rear derailleur and shifter would be incomatible.

The only SRAM shifters that are compatible with Shimano RD is the Rocket or attack, I have done it and it says so on the box.

the manufacturers spend a fortune on R&D and design systems to work together, sure you can mix and match within limits but they wont work as smooth and slick as they are meant to, the systems differ in small ways and those will eventually over time wear and become more prominent causing you huge dissatisfaction, rather go for the slightly lower spec part at a better price than mix systems as long as it is truely compatible. Cassettes are generally pretty similar in quality it is mainly the material and weight you pay for in the high end ones.

They actually make a Sram or Shimano compatible version. Look closely on the box it will say either 2:1 or 1:1 pull ratio
