Sufferfest or Chris Carmichael?

After one too many soaking rides, I figured I've earned enough rule #9 credits and ordered an indoor trainer.

Heard good things about Sufferfest and Chris Carmichael videos to train with, wondering which series people feel are better. Leaning towards the Sufferfest ones because they're downloadable, well priced, and have kick a** sound tracks

I'm currently training on the sufferfest vids. You really can get a good exercise if you're willing too suffer.Nearly moered through the window the other day when I peddled too hard and the bike fell of the trainer because the bolts that hold it came loose after hours of training this winter....

Really cool training vids and great music like you said.Have not tried the Carmichael vids but I can back the sufferfest ones.Still beats just sitting their and doing you're own thing but still does not get near riding you're bike like it was meant to ride.

Sufferfest is awesome, you won't be sorry. It's a huge download though, so make sure your internet cap is still good...

Trainright (Chris Carmichael's series) is good too. What I like is that most of the DVD's has a bit of race footage here and there (although Sufferfest is all race footage).

Also look at Spinervals (Coach Troy). He is very entertaining and really makes the time pass a bit faster.

Great, thanks for feedback folks. Heard others recommend Spinnervals so will check that out too.

I also train on Sufferfest. Really good stuff and really tough. If you're only looking for mp3 spinning workouts, try Jamie Morton's on www.trihardist.com. I used to use this before I got the Sufferfest vids and really enjoyed it.

I only ever downloaded one SFF video and only ever used it once. Not that there's anything wrong with it so I might just try it again over the weekend.

I worked with a coach last year who gave me mostly IDT workouts and ever since then I love working on the IDT. The coached workouts is far more structured then Sufferfest if you are on specific goals. The IDT and coach is by far the best money I've spent on my cycling so far.

I am on Sufferfest when the best alternative is the idt. You can order the backup cd, if you want to eliminate the downloads.

Structure of Angels and A Very Dark Place are good workouts. Sound and race footage is very cool, and helps with the boredom factor.

Chased the steak-eater in Angels last night, and he kept winning!

Nice - busy downloading as we speak!

I see that this site also has timed workouts which sync with the Sufferfest videos as long as you have an ANT+ dongle and necessary sensors:

I'm a bit vague on RPE, so what I like is they seem to put a VirtualPower dashboard alongside to help be sure you are working at the required level in the video.

Will sign up for 30 day trial when my dongle arrives from Nivo and report back on how it is.

Downloaded Local Hero's this weekend. Download was quite quick i thought for a nearly 2gig file only took baout 3hrs.

I thought it was pretty cool and i would dig to try the others as well. Which ones have you guys tried?

Working my way through them - Angels is quite decent, and enjoyed a Very Dark Place. Looking forward to trying The Hunted too.

Also have started experimenting using them with trainerroad to give me some real stats and intervals to work against while the video is playing. Not a bad setup, although I need to get my trainer and bike setup better. At present I don't think the resistance/power I'm working at is really matching what TR is saying - plus if I stand and pump my crank magnet must be moving cause I lose the cadence reading.

IDT is a very new thing for me, so will take some time to come up with a system that works for me. Having some vids and on screen stats is definitely helping to focus the effort tho.

Anybody want to swop Sufferfest videos???

I also downloaded a couple including Blender.

I would have bought some more but with this exchange rate it is a bit high.
