Just avoid the multiple potholes that don't get called out, dodge the cars that want to kill you from the front, get out of the way of the trucks that want to kill you from behind, hope that the marshals showing you which way to turn in the township are actually there, jump over the multiple uncovered railway lines, don't go over the narrow finish with more than one cyclist near you, and you will be fine. Meh... I'm sure I had to paint my cat on Thursday!

Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 I'm with MtbBarbie on this one, this race just sounds more and more awesome after every post... well at least if crashing into a pothole and then getting hit by an oncoming car is your thing... Will just have to go see what it's all about and try and stay upright (and try not to have a heart attack within the first 10kms.)

Spinnekop Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 It's not that bad man............Out and back route. Flat except for the little climb at the turn around point. The bunches are not that big so you can manouver if you have to. I have never seen a crash in that race in my bunch. Lucky? I suppose yes.But point being, there are more crashes in the Argus and the 94.7 than in this race. Just don't do stupid stuff. 428 others and Sandro 2

Selous Scout (aka LegTrap) Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 I did this race some years ago and managed the fastest average speed I have ever done ie 33km/hr.I wish I could average anywhere near that time these days-age and 2 spinal fusions does that to one.

On the full distance there are only 5 potholes and we have been assured that the tar will be fixed before the race. There is one bit that covers about 100 metres on both out and back loop which will not be fixed. but we will sweep it clear of loose stones. Your buddies can still enter, but will have to pay the R50 penalty for late entry. It is for Hospice, if you can convince them. Anybody else on here doing any cycling? Afraid I wont be there no. Nothing secret, but very sparse training yes. Adopted a new rest is best training strategy
