I am thinking of upgrading to a ds bike

 

I found a second hand Giant trance with full XT groupset,Fox float RP3 rear shock and a rock shox Tora 302 fork in good condition for 15 grand.

 

Is this a good bike for the price and are there any other bikes i should consider in the 15-20 grand price rangeMTBiker2008-01-15 07:02:51

Dont buy the Trance, it bob like hell. I had one, I sold it.

 

 

 

Buy a GIANT ANTHEM. Do not asked why, just go to the shop and buy a ANTHEM.

 

 

 

(or search the hub for anthem and see all the reasons why you can only buy a anthem. R20K, and you buy the anthem1 with a RP23 shock.)

 

 

 

check the 2 shock designs, the trance goes up and down = BOB (its a softer ride than the anthem, cant climb like a anthem and is a leasure type racing concept)

 

 

 

the anthem is a XC Racing bike

Agree with Pops - love my Anthem.  Handles very well.

Don't know about the Blur but the Superlight is about 9-11k just for the frame.

Better than the trance

Best way to go about choosing a new bike is do hours of internet research, visit every bike shop you can find, speak to every expert, sales person, race snake, even roadies, and then...

 

... choose the one that looks the coolest!

I also found a new commencal meta 4.2 for 16 grand

 

The Meta 4.2 used to retail for R 20 599.00. It is now on special while stock last. You will struggle to find a better specced bike with this kind of performance for that money (R 16 grand). But I am biaised, as we import them . Ask your dealer for a demo bike.

I think the Trance is an awesome bike  for value for money - just depends what you want it for. Anthem if you like to finish a course or hill climb 1st, Trance if you like to be at the bottom 1st.

 

However for a 2nd hand bike I'd want a better fork for R15000

The Anthem is an XC race bike. R15000 for a 2nd hand Trance sounds rough. A buddy of mine just paid 16k for an immaculate Anthem 1 which normally retails for over 30k.

I would say you should seriously consider the Meta at that price. Besides, if you're looking for a trailbike it will be just a little bit more likely to fit the bill, even though it's still pretty much an XC bike.

 

However, it comes with a Fox fork and Sram X.9 components which are at the same level as XT.

 

Why buy 2nd hand when you can have a better bike new...?
