Is there anywhere you can test different types of DS bikes

Unfortunately you're on the wrong continent for that. Hardly any manufacturers or shops in SA offer demo bikes.

Brandon Els said that ProBike would have a complete fleet of Intense demo bikes, but I fear they are out of your budget with their frames only retailing for 15k+.

Gary Fisher has a number of demo Hi-Fi's travelling round the country. That's what Shane at Bowman Cycles in CT told me. Maybe speak to him and ask him about it? He's riding one of their 29ers at the moment

I had the HiFi 29'er on test some time back. Great bike.

Bowman's ofen have hire bikes and these are often from different manufacturers so that may be a way to sample the differences.

How much are Titus motolites
and Gary fisher HI-Fi

Not sure at the moment. Last I heard the Motolite 2 frame was retailing for somewhere in the region of 17k

The Motolite 1 is only available as a complete bike and doesn't have the carbon seatstays or linkage as on the 2. Think they were retailling for low to mid twenties. Have a look on www.titusti.com for the parts spec

The agency is changing again so might be best to email Titus in the US and find out who to speak to. AFAIK there's not much available locally at the moment....if any

Dont get the lefty. So many ppl I know here, who once had them, complained and I dont even see them around any more.

It was just a bad idea from the beginning!

Funny, I've never heard a proper complaint from any of my mates riding lefty's. They're really stiff (stiffer than a lot of conventional forks) and usually very light too. Only downside is limited options when its time to replace 'em.

I have been doing lots of looking around and I am thinking of Going for a santa cruz superlight .

Is there any reason why I shouldn't as most reviews say these are very good bikesMTBiker2008-01-19 07:44:03

One aspect I also looked at going thru these same motions was

service from the manufacturer should a stay, bracket or thing brake. HTails I

see more or less inter-compatible but the back suspension parts to each DS

model is quite unique.

Personally went with a Raleigh RDS 5, 2nd hand for R7k which allowed for new

Fox RP2 at the back @ R800 extra.

Did not like the latest stuff in R14k range but that's mostly personal reasons,

wanted something bit more sturdy & don't mind little extra weight. My '98

Trek 7000 HT is still going strong & I want similar service. Merida

800 was tempting though but stock was a problem in Dec.

Bike's transportation was also an issue for me cu's it had to hang on the

carrier with my wife's HTail or kids bike, don't want Thule

route.

But looks was final tip over. Also found my 5 year old likes standing on top

tube hugging me for short trips to cafe, cables are on the side & tube is

flat on top & lockouts take care of extra weight' strain concerns.

LOLLOL

Complained, complained about what exactly. Only complaints i ever heard revolved around guys changing their Lefty because they were tired of being the odd one out with their riding mates.

SOmetimes fitting in is far more important than reliable, stiff and strong suspension.

been on 3 Lefty's in 7 years and never had a problem with one of them. Had more hassles with my S.I.D and Manitou than with Lefty.
