The Gryphon for Singular is a very cool bike and unique bike. Would love one for commuting. Then again the Peregrine is also a very awesome bike. mmm

I have no idea what a cyclocross bike even looks like, are there any pictures of what these bikes look like? They sound interesting and good fun.

Chief difference in older bikes would be the cantis / v brakes and increased tyre clearance - newer bikes will tend to have disc mounts.

the cable routing tends to be on top of the top-tube to aid in shouldering, and the geometry tends to not include compact type geometries - again for greater shouldering clearance.

The frames themselves are more robust, although there is little difference between top-end CX bikes and their road brethren, barring CX type geometry and tyre clearance.

My Cotic X has gussets at all critical joints to aid strength, and to facilitate a bridge-less rear stay arrangement - but mine is not a true race machine (too heavy for that).
