This morning as I was riding my MTB near Dely Road (Pretoria) where it goes underneath the NI highway' date=' I was attacked by two robbers. One grabbed me around the neck and pulled me from the bike and nearly strangled me. They demanded my cell phone and money and then also took the bike.

Thank the Lord! Apart from the loss of the possessions and a sore throat, I was left unhurt.

The bike is a black Specialized Epic with a Specialized front tyre and a Hutchinson back tyre with a gray wall. If you happen to notice such a bike, please call me at 012 8036501 or 073 6891370

Thanks!
Gerrit (aka Oupa Gert)

Gerrit - spend the next few weeks visiting pawn (not porn) shops in the surrounding area. they normally pawn these bikes within a day or 2. You have proof of ownership so you can take it back. - good luick and i'm glad to see you are okay

Bike recovered! How? Yesterday I offered a finder's fee in the area

where it happened to anybody finding the bike and this morning I

received a phone call from a guy who had "found" it. The R 1000

finder's fee was probably a lot more than the value on the black

market.

Everything seems untouched' date=' even the credit card in

the saddle bag (already canceled yesterday) was still there. Sad that

one has to buy back your own property on the black market, but I am

very happy.

Thanks for all the words of sympathy and think twice before riding alone.

BTW, well done on getting your bike back dude. Clap

Glad you got you bike back, wouldn't be suprised if the guy you got it back from knew (or was) the guys who took it in the first place...

His story is that he came across two guys trying to sell the bike, he and his mates took the bike and the two guys ran away. Peace to him...

BTW: I called 1011 from the spot afterwards and the police called back wanting to know where it was. We waited a long time and then went to the police station to report it; that took another hour and a half. This morning a policeman called back, I told him that the bike had been recovered and that the police should really clean up the area, but he did not sound very interested.

When I told the insurance about the recovery, the agent thanked me for my honesty. Does that tell us something about the morals of our society?

The bike was mine and then I bought it back - now it is doubly mine. So it is with God's relationship with us.

Mention to your insurance company the R1000  spent to retrieve you r bike and you may find that they will reimburse you. Either directly or as an Ex Gratia settlement....your quick thinking saved them from a more substantial indemnity settlement!! Worth a try!!

My bike was stolen over a year ago and I attempted to report it stolen at Sebenza police station (bike was stolen from off its carrier in Midrand) but cops wanted serial numbers amd proof I owned it. After 1 or 2 hours of explaining I didn't have seriel number or proof of ownership because I bought it as a frame they then told me I couldn't report it ......... I gave up with those idiots.
