i ve got a set (enve carbon 29er)

it looks on both wheels as if the plastic coating(or clear paint )dont know what you call it,comes off,on the side walls of the rim it is fine,it happens between the spokes (plus mines 4mm wide).all the little marks (scratches) looks as if the wind /sand rub it off ,because they are all in the direction that the wheels spin

is this normal or what?

any comments?

Are you refering to the white lines on the inside if the rim between the spokes? I had 65 clinchers and they also had those white lines as in your pics. Seems to be normal

Looks as if the clear coat is peeling. Take it back to the shop and get them sorted under warranty (if they are under warranty).

The clear coat should not peel like that unless you have been using some sort of solvent or chemical to clean them with.

This looks like a problem with the flow coat, (a substance they spray into the mould to enhance the look of the product. If it were mechanical damage, your sticker around the valve would be far worse off than anything else.

From what I know about Enve, something doesn't look right, Enve lay up using Pre-preg carbon unidirectional weave, this means that there is nothing of that colour in the wheel, which bothers me more, as flow coats are generally clear. and if scratched or sanded go milky white, not that grey colour.

My advice is send your pics to ENVE US, and ask them to comment before approaching the LBS.

zork , i agree with this , mail ENVE because what may be a normal condition for one type of carbon finish may not be so for another . contact them to see if this is normal for thier wheels .
