Merida have a 5 year warranty on their frames, you just need the proof of purchase . . .

Not transferable to a second owner.

At the OP, well done for being honest.

I agree with V as well, is it not just paint ?

So is the Merida still for sale? :) I am meeting a "brand new hubber" at the airport today to lay down a fair amount of cash for a carbon hardtail...imagine if that thing has problems on it, where is he going to leave it, because he is on his way overseas? Or maybe he is just popping in to the airport from Boksburg to mo*r me and take my cash :/

Dude - Don't joke about stuff like that...Last week a guy in Cape Town that was selling his BMW on Gumtree was abducted & murdered by the "buyers"!!

It's a sick world we're living in.

Be careful...

I think I can make a carbon frame in my sleep now, but that does not bug me when buying second hand, its R800 to R1500 to fix a carbon frame so that its stronger than before it cracked (there's a guy in benoni and one in potch who actually hand-builds carbon microlight planes). Edited by Purnjap

Frame cracks are not uncommon and they start small....

Always take a magnifying glass to check out a secondhand bike - seriously

I have had one frame already with hairline cracks , guy was decent enough to sort out it getting swopped under warranty but what a 2 month mission.

And the only way to be 100% sure the whole frame is sound is to totally strip the bike and go over it - the hairline crack in the frame I got was behind the crank/blades , you couldn't see it with the crank on . I only saw it after I decided to do a total strip down and service - fortunately that was the same night I got the bike!!

Thanks Skylark. Learn't a lot from this experience.

Just post a picture of the "Crack" - we would like to see it?

Will do - frame is with Cycle Lab Fourways. Going past there later this afternoon.
