Discovered the past week that I have a special Cape Flat edition chainring

The Passion Gapped Ultegra chainring

Was quoted a pretty penny to have it "repaired" back to 'normal' (replaced) :(

You've been chewing on it? ;)

Quite common to see it on the big ring of a Mtb. Usually from going over rocks and bumping teeth. Works just fine like that, simply file off sharp edges and tell your mates it improves your shifting.

Think it was a bump :( Pavement at one specific spot it all I can think of, but can't recall it happening

Whoa, guy, Ultegra is a road gruppo. Did you hit the chainring on the kerb?

If not, how old is it?

reasonably new :( I suspect a kerb getting across Bompas road into Melville road.

Will have to practice stopping, dismounting, picking up bike, placing on pavement and pushing to other side, picking up and putting down on road before I carry on riding!

Wasn't too bad an impact; chainring got bumped, rest of bike is OK. Will fix the chainring up, and go riding again from Tuesday. No weird noises, behaviour etc on the two long rides + Jozi Challenge the last few days. Willing to state bike is A-OK!
