my freeride/AM dog (150mm of travel) mountain dog did 12 foot forward flip into the river while chasing a hadeda just below delt park. (kinda near the bit where the gap jump by the willow tree is) the water is pretty deep there, doesn't look too mank. Maybe check that out?

If you really want to build something on the Spruit, the best way of avoiding legal trouble is to grow a dirt jump.

I believe that there is a "magic bean" available that you plant, and then cover nicely with the surrounding dirt. If anyone asks, you are just landscaping.

Always avoid planting wood jumps, as these are not endemic to the area.

I like all the ideas...

I'll give the delta park dam a look later in the week, is there a jump into it or just go straight off the edge?

as for the growing a dirt jump i see it happening here and there seems like the approach many people take but my mound of dirt will need to be pretty big...

A portable BMX jump would be a winner I wont lie and jumping into emmarentia dam would be a dream but I'm sure the authorities will be onto you the minute you jump in the lake for the first time, and you will attract quite a bit of attention...

its straight off the edge but i think you could easily build it up into something. its actually into the braamfontein spruit. if you cycle up the spruit from fratelli's its on your left hand side.

Remember the story with the teeter totter and the oke who paralysed himself on the spruit and wanted to sue Club Mugg n Bean and Richard Beswick. He is still learning to walk as far as I know and the court case diappeared but not without some sweat. So maybe note this is public land and you cannot hide behind ignorance etc. You hurt someone and the cops will hunt you down.

So at best you will get some thanks and a bad rash from the water in those dams as well as a lot of diarrhoea.

At worst a broken neck, a drowning and a legal case if it is not you that commits hari kiri.

I would also like to test the depths of those dams - dont think they are very deep

And finally if you do it can you invite us to watch - maybe somebdy's pet python or crocodile lives in there...

If i wanted to be safe id just go to the spinning class every saturday morning but instead a bought a mountain bike cause its just way more fun...

It is public land and i could get into a lot of trouble but if no one sees me building my ramp there is no proof of linking me to said ramp, so its much of a muchness... as we all say the "spruit fairy" who knows who he is :)

As for the safety of the water, im young and stupid and want to have fun :)

the spruit fairy is an actual person. And quite a few of us know him personally. In fact the local caxton press paper in Rosebank did an article on the spruit and some of the more fun parts of it. The journalist interviewed the spruit fairy, but he asked to remain anonymous

I've been to jozi x a few times great fun can get some huge airtime they have like a 1.5m launch ramp for the bag jump. The best is to go on a wednesday night from 5 the whole thing is floodlit there is also like and mini slope style section. it costs R50. You must come and give it a try

Myself and Mr Christmas Tree had a closer look at said dam on saturday. That water is super manky. There are also some giant carp in there that may swallow your bike.

If you want to get airtime, try tricks, and not hurt yourself... go to Jozi-X (across from the PWC/Toyota/MTN bike park. On wednesday nights they have airbag sessions. It's R50 for the night. I think they do the same on Sundays.
