no the program is a MTB specific strength program. Really worthwhile. The site author James Wilson is a big proponent of flat pedals. He reckons everyone should learn to ride in flats first before switching to clipless because it teaches you the correct pedalling technique. He makes a lot of sense.

Was just checking since it seems like most questions go the other way.

Didn't know there was such a keen interest in moving to flats.

It takes a while to get used to the flat pedals. I bought an inexpensive set from Crown Cycles with 10 studs. Good shoes is a must and must have a flat soft sole. For your first technical climb (ie loose rocky and steep climb) wear shin guards. Your foot tends to come off when the back wheel hits an obstacle. Once you have learnt to 'pull' with flats you can climb anything. You descend with much more control too as you can now put your foot more square on the pedal with less strain on the calf muscle.

If you changed because of your knee then be careful where you position your foot. Ride with the pedal on the ball of your foot for general riding, but for steep climbs move it slight back towards the middle.

Enjoy - your riding skills will improve!

As mentioned in previous threads, when it comes to flats the only way to go is FiveTens with low profile long pinned pedals.

My personal favourite combo is FiveTen Barrons with Nuke Proof Neutrons (running on 2 of my bikes). 3rd pair of FiveTens on their way as we speak.

So do yourself a favour... don't waste money on anything else. Just get some FiveTens

What is the best/cheapest way to get hold of some five tens...

Considering chucking away the clipless for a while! And they look supreme!

yeah i also want to know... i dont want to buy shoes online...now now they dont fit!

Buy yourself a set of MOSH flat pedals - big, heavy, protruding pins help to keep your foot on the pedal - if that doesn't work, smacking your shins on them once or twice will ensure your feet never leave the pedals again ...

i like the pedals ma daai skoene!!! eish atrocious! what about skateboarding shoes??

Jy het iets nodig met 'n stywe sool wat goed sal grip. Kyk dalk na die ander Five Ten skoene ook.

Try n' get a pair of shoes that either have a flap to cover the laces or velcro straps - otherwise one shoelace in the crank and a face-plant later, you'll understand why
