idrive Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 I've got mtb and bought a roadbike in November. Two very different beasts. Over christmas I rode the skinny one a lot as there wasn't much traffic. To enjoy the mtb you need to get out of the city!!!
lowracer Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 recumbent. and specially for oom bigh, you need to add tandem
joevan Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Started off with a cheapie MTB to ride in the burbs to get fitter. Then decided to do a few funrides (Races?) in the dirt, and did the whole Western Cape circuit. Ended up upgrading the MTB!! Decided to buy a cheapie road bike because it wasn't always convenient to travel to a suitable venue for fun riding.(Petrol & Time) and with the road bike I can ride from the house. Then ended up doing first Argus last year. Oops, now upgraded on the road bike as well!!! (Almost a divorce case!!)Riding the road bike more than the MTB, but still prefer MTB overall!!
Imtb Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 MTB...have never ridden a road bike so I am abit biased.
dfm1 Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 Road, for racing, adrenalin and the rush, MTB for fun and relaxing, MTB there is no pressure just fun, Road is for competing and closenit racing.
PappaBear Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 dfm1, if you don't get a adrenalin rush while mtb'ing, you're doing the wrong trails boet!
AndreZA Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 dfm1' date=' if you don't get a adrenalin rush while mtb'ing, you're doing the wrong trails boet! [/quote'] or just not going fast enough.
dfm1 Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 dfm1' date=' if you don't get a adrenalin rush while mtb'ing, you're doing the wrong trails boet! [/quote'] Just did the Sabie Experience, great fun never needed the granny gear, Did Telkom Sat, Lost City and Mabilingwe, Winter challange, had some podiums and will be doing the Epic this year. MTB is great, I have a lot of fun doing it but it lacks the dynamic of going for the line trying to out sprint 30 other riders, trying to outwit the bunch when you go in a break, or trying to bring back a break because it does not contain anyone from your team. With MTB, its only the first 30 riders that are really competing, as for the rest its all about enjoying the experience. Personally I like to compete, and I enjoy the dynamics of racing in a team. I ride MTB for fun, and yes I still try to compete, there is just no pressure to produce results, and yes I will be doing more MTB races this year.
Ratty Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 If I had a mtb trail that started close to my house I don't think I'd ever ride my road bike. Road bike is a lot more convinient as I can wake up and be out riding in 15 minutes.
Fulmenicilus Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 Both disciplines are a lot of fun. Currently doing more MTB due to Epic training. I've noticed that I've become a bit of a nervous roadie - not used to traffic any more!
PappaBear Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 If I can name one draw-back of mtb, it's that often the girls are a bit afraid of the more technical and hardcore trails.... leaving us to make a lot of boys-only trips...
