I've ridden some sections of the Baviaanskloof in April last year. Drove through to Makadat Caves, about 60km into the Baviaanskloof, overnighted there and rode from there to the entrance of the reserve itself. Be aware though, that they may not allow you to ride in the reserve. We were stopped at the entrance and prevented from riding on. However, driving through the reserve, we came across some foreign cyclists travelling in the opposite direction, touring. Also, be aware that you require a vehicle with high ground clearance for the reserve.

Patensie is an awesome little town. Stay at the hotel at the entrance to town, the food is fantastic.

yip, i have done it more than once. It is awesome! We stayed at Zandvlakte in the middle; the accomodation is awesome and the hosts VERY friendly and helpful. It is also right on the route so easy to find.

Day one - quite flat and fast (if you dont have to wait for people) - also the most scenic I would say.

Day 2 - it has the two fangs, some climb it feel like you go for ever and then Bergplaas. We had a beer on top of Bergplaas (thus the gap in my tracking - forgot to start it again when we started to decent)...it did make the decent more fun though (just mind the sharp turns, cause if you miss it, you are going to feel how it feels to fly before your life flashes infront of your eyes.

Did it with a few friends a couple of years back. The first 130 or so KM's of the Kloof is easy riding with a couple of passes closer to Patensie....check out the threads on the Trans-Baviaans for profiles etc. There are some awesome self-catering type places (as well as camping) both in the Kloof as well as Patensie...plenty of info available on the net. IMO it would be a bit of a waste to do it in two days though, it really is an amazing area and deserves a bit more time.

You can do it in one day...whistling.gif

Jokes aside this is one of the most beautiful places to ride in S.A. Done the Trans Baviaans a couple of times and would love to do this route in two days.

You rent the hikers cabin (more like a house) at the top of Bergplaas with a fireplace and hot water.

It's more or less halfway and pretty cheap (cant remember exactly how much).

last december 4 of us cycled from PE to Knysna through the Baviaanskloof over 6 days.

The baviaanskloof part is awesome and 2 days from willowmore to patensie is a really lekker ride and not too hard. I suggest you camp in the reserve, i.e. doosklip or rooihoek (i think those are the names)

book in advance, those campgrounds are booked up well in advance!

hmmm, dammm this sounds special.

keep us updated how this goes,

where you start, what the planned distance is per day + climb

where you will over night plus costs.

Def sounds like something me and the wife might be keen on also doing.
