Hi. I am new to the site but i have been reading the forum for a while

I have been riding bike on and off my whole life but never committed to it. I do need the exercise so I need to take this serious. I live on a farm in Montagu so i have plenty of roads to ride on, but i dont want to ride on gravel roads all the time. I want to ride on single tracks etc a bit as well

I am on a tight budget and can spend R5000 or up to R5500

I really want a 29er but I am not sure if I am going to get something good for that price. I do however think that a 26 hardtail for that price will give me a good bike. I am looking for a hardtail with hydraulic disc

Some of the bikes I was thinking of

Titan 29er sport disc

Giant revel 29er 0

GT karakoram 3.0 29. ( bit more expensive)

Or 26"

Scott aspect 20 (2012)

Scot aspect 30 (2012)

Silverback alpine 3

Scott aspect 40 for my girlfriend ?

Please share your thought and point me in the right direction

Thanks

I am in the same boat. I dont want to do serious technical stuff, yet. Really want to do karoo2coast next year. Can this be done on a budget R5000 bike?

I want to finish, not win

My 2c, for that price you are not going to get amazing specs on a new 26er anyway, so if you really want a 29er go for it.

Also at that price "less famous" brands like Silverback, Axis and Titan will be better specced and better value for money than Scotts & Giants (ok at every price but at 5K its even more relevant)

In that price range I reckon you'll be better off going second hand.

You said you've been riding on and off for a number of years so you should have the knowledge to find a decent bike.

Value for money and a good bargain are far more important in that scenario than 26 or 29.

Yes I have been riding on and off for a few years but I have always used a crap bike. So R5000 for n bike to start again is all I can afford and more that I have ever spent on a bike. I am sure that after a year or 2 i will spend more on a bike

i was going to say good one.......but then i realised you were being serious huh.png

You right I would say its the other way round. I think 29ers should by rated like EPO......... its cheating. The best way to define a 26er is like a slr camera you have to focus the picture to get it clear the 29er is like an instant camera "mik en druk" just point it straight and it does the rest.
