Those of you doing double century do you think it's still safe to do it considering all the farm worker strikes in the area.Hope it settles down so we can race next week, always a highlight of the year.

It would be really disappointing if the race is cancelled. Perhaps the orginisers should see if they can perhaps get an alternative route?

I could be completely off the mark here but i believe the strikers here in Western Cape seem to be less violent and actually more educated than other provinces. Can the organisers not approach the represented unoins and ask for a respite from striking on the day? i really honestly think they would abide to it. I believe these people have every reason to strike. i mean earning R100 per day is nuts for working in that heat the whole day. look, most of the strikes are during the week and is pretty quiet on the weekends when most of them spend time at home so hopefully nothing will come about.

Just a pity most of these so called "farmworkers" are not actually farmworkers but people bussed in from other areas, some even from Cape Town.

These savages has no other mandate than to disrupt and burn and pillage. Doubt very much they will listen to an request not to disrupt a few "elitest, white okes on their bicycles out for a lekker ride"

Might even inspire them to disrupt the race as much as possible. Remember, this is the "have nots againts the have's"

Talks are under way and strikes are supposed to be suspended, but I don't think the news has spread to the protesters...

Just saw some disturbing photos on FB from people living in Swellendam of "riots" in the Swellendam main street, blockades, tires burning, windows breaking etc(I'm too stupid to post the pics on thehub otherwise I would have). If the race was this weekend it would have been BIG problems.

Without starting a political debate on this cycling forum, I think that Grinder's comments about 'savages' and a few 'elitist white okes on the bicycles' are way off the mark. There are riders other than 'white okes' who participate in the DC.

For the sake of all participants, we would want these disturbances to be over by the time of the event. I am sure that PPA and the organisers will keep a close watch on events.
