Hey Guys,

The Karkloof MTB Club has been hard at work improving on what is arguably now the best single track network in the country. There are permanently marked 10km, 20km, 30km and XCO routes as well as some adventurous "un-marked" outback trails totalling about 65km's of track.

Check out the new website at www.karkloofmtb.co.za/trails and the facebook page at http://www.facebook....fMountainBiking post-39819-0-67000700-1352991981_thumb.png

The club is also offering a special on annual membership, which allows you to access the trails throughout the year - contact Anita Turvey on anita@dekosa.co.za

They have really put a lot of effort into making things work at the ( mtb ) club. While they still have the ever popular karkloof classic and trail blazer to tempt people up into the midlands, to keep them coming back, there are the marked trails and outback sections .. all ridden in

Rode them a few weeks back and it blew my mind flowing forrest, big berms, nice ups'n'downs, rocky/technical stuff, wooden bridges aplenty - mountain biking heaven!

I will be in the area in about a week's time and I am taking the bikes with. I do however have a few questions.

1. How safe is it to ride these mid week? We will be 2 people riding.

2. Are the trails well marked or am I going to die and never be found again?

3. What is the weather like this time of year? What kit is recommended.

4. If point 2 is moot, will one of the locals be willing to show us around?

The gravity trails at Karkloof are horrible. You won't like them.

Then there are the well marked trails from the country club and also Howick trails. And if you go out of town, Cascades, Giba... sigh. I wanna go back.

SIR M, I could send you the GPX file of the Enduro route ;)

I rode the 30k Karkloof trail on Sunday morning after SSSC. Awesome riding! Even pofadder with a rigid fork. Got a couple of loose fillings now but on the positive side the scabs from my previous weekends rock bashing excursion all fell off. :D

Sir M, routes are well marked. If you are able, copy my strava file. We ended up doing 33k's.

Ive got the GPX from the site. Just some general questions really. Will be staying about 15km from there for a whole week. Might as well hit the trails once of twice while I'm there.

Will be doing the canopy trail also :D

i often ride those areas on my own - pretty chilled.....from a "wipe out and hurt yourself" point of view - a partner (as you have) is ideal.

The 30km route is well marked - and you can find some GPS routes of the non marked courses that include parts of the 60km race

Totally Safe - haven't had an issue in the area in the 2 years I have lived and ridden

10, 20, 30 and XCO routes are very well marked - very hard to get lost

3. What is the weather like this time of year? What kit is recommended.

Cold starts in the morning and evening - with sunny warm days - Temps up to 25 degrees

4. If point 2 is moot, will one of the locals be willing to show us around?

I am sure that some of the locals would be willing

Thanks Stephen

Had a look at the GPX file and with 430m of total ascend it looks great to do the 30km as a day trip taking some snacks with. If it's well marked then I don't see any problems with only the two of us doing it.

Thanks for the feedback.
