Out in my garden this morning bare foot and realised I was standing on something. Looked down and nearly jumped a foot in the air before I realised the cat had got to it earlier and it wasn't alive. Nearly had to change my shorts though.

Spotted bush snake:

Love these snakes, great coloring. Thankfully harmless, I've seen more of these things lying around dead than alive...

Yes shame, the first thing people shout when they see it is "BOOMSLANG"...they are pretty aggresive little buggers though, removed tons of them in the summer at our house in toti.

Ja, harmless I know, but are quick to bite. And time does seem to slow down during the split second it takes to ID what you're standing on.

As you say, they seem to be prime targets for cats.

Johannesburg - A young woman bitten by a snake, believed to be a puff adder, while walking along a nature trail at Shongweni, outside Durban, on Sunday was in a stable condition, paramedics said.

ER24 spokesperson Derrick Banks said paramedics treated her before she was taken to Hillcrest private hospital where she was reported to be "absolutely fine".

Banks said she had been walking with friends in the Giba Gorge area when the serpent struck her through her shoe.
