Its disgraceful and a sign of the levels we have sunk to as a nation.

I can never condone crime, and especially crime aimed at children, however we really need to move away from this attitude of "Thank Goodness they are okay" or "Oh, its only petty crime, at least they didnt stab me" - in my opinion crime is crime, but to me it appears as if we have as a nation become so accustomed to crime, that we heave a collective sigh of relief when its perpetrated against us and we are still alive afterwards.

I dont understand it, anywhere else in the western world people would be absolutely Outraged they stole a bicycle, or broke into their locked house, or threatened them with a weapon, it would make front page news, and the police would be searching the area with dogs and police lines for clues, - here you are lucky if they even take a look................

- "Are you all okay?" " - "Yes" - "Oh Okay",... "do you need a case number for insurance?" .............and generally thats the end of it as far as they are concerned..........and sadly we have no option but to accept it.

Please dont think I am aiming the post at you mate, thats not my intention, I understand exactly where you are coming from and how you feel, its an outrageous situation and completely unacceptable in a civilized society - I just think its such a sad state when, unless someone is killed or brutally injured, no-one in any position of power to do something about it - cares.!

........But, maybe I am just having a bad Monday it happens with us old blokes, we have our good days and bad days, maybe I just didnt sleep well, ........I'll see how I feel tomorrow. blush.png

Like I said in the post the amount of people in the community that got involved in the search was amazing. If you saw the way these guys tried to find them you would know it was not taken lightly. Trinity Cycles guys had no hesitation chasing them through the reeds into the dam (with phones in pockets eish). I have to say even the police guys were great. Search went on for hours. Says something for living in a small place. JHB would never have gotten this response. They went crazy trying to catch them.

Sad part is once it is dark the chances of catching them is almost 0% unless they turn up with the bike again somwehere to sell it or seen riding it. You can't arrest everyone now wearing a blue T-shirt (well I believe the police did bring 3 Blue T-shirt guys in later that night for questioning but could not be identified as it was the other guy with the axe she got a good look at). No one has taken this one lightly for sure. I think if there was this much commitment in places like JHB etc in catching guys then crime would be a lot less. Just a pity these criminals know the bush better than us. Once they were in those reeds you could hear them but could see nothing.

I passed them on my way home, I saw them standing there and the Girl looked quite shocked. I first thaught a car almost hit them. To think I cross that piece every day.mellow.png I see the 2 riding around town regulary. The Guys at Trinity are truly great, thanks to them for helping so quickly.

Yeah she was very shocked. My sister send her away from the scene with some friends while the search went on. I believe now she may be getting spoilt all week staying with granny and grandpa thumbup1.gif

I believe they also tried to take a guy out on his scooter before they got her bike, so they were out with a mission to steel anything. There is a huge amount of homeless living in those trees right where it happened. May be time to send the dogs in and clean out the area.

It's like I said in another thread it's like every thread is about bike stollen, high jacked, mugging it's so sad our sport we love for our selfs and our families, simply is becoming to dangerous to take them along for quality family outdoor fun.

I'd rather keep quiet.

And ride down the same road with the same results.

By posting you manage to let other people become aware of the dangers in that area (and a lot of people run and cycle alone on that road). Plus you get a photo of the bike more exposed so may be someone spots it.

But guess everyone to themselves.........

What shocks me is that people are so 'shocked' by this. Really? This is the society that our government breeds - one of 'bring my AK47' and 'kill the boer'. One where the worst penalty for murder and rape is a few years with possibility of parole. One where police members have to be send on 'anti corruption' courses to make them 'uncorruptable'. One where criminals would shoot children in the back and torture/rape/kill old people. One where the majority of government officials have criminal records. One where changing names is much more important that to help the poor, fight crime and improve living conditions. One where 'take back what belongs to you' have been preached from political podiums for years.

'Criminals going to a new low' is so inappropriate. They have been there, and much lower, but luckily we are going to manguang to shuffle the corruption around a bit. That's going to help us a ton. What a shame that our young children have to be exposed to this.

That's what criminals do no matter where they are in the world?

Sadly, this is not new. A friend of mine's 14 year old son got attacked in their suburb in Johannesburg by a guy armed with a screwdriver and had his bike taken a few years ago...
