So I decided to build up a bike, just to cruise around on, nothing special.

My wifie says it's the ugliest thing she's ever seen & my cycling buddies say I'm mental.....So What!!

It's a 1970's Gazelle track bike, originally a fixie but now it can free wheel. Had no mountings for brakes so i fitted a Tomassini fork & a front brake.

Found a nice set of shimano wheels, complete front & just the back rim (no hub or spokes)

but a buddy said he's got a set of roadbike wheels I can have & we'll convert the back with spacers.

I plan on making it all black, with white tyres, maybe white grips & saddle. I still need a seatpost (27.something?? & decent saddle.)

Will post picks as it comes along.

That's how a SS should be built, not bought off the floor in new parts wink.png - Nice one!

Thanks guys, It's gonna look way better when it's done, Got everyting from the parts bin at the LBS

Bought the brakes, lever, & cones for the front wheel new so it's cost me a total of R 200.. For a whole bike...that's a deal

Just figured out something now on my test ride in the shop......

The pedals & the front wheel are very close to each other so that when I turned a bit sharp, my foot hit the wheel.......

Fark that hurt!!!!!!!! stupid industrial strength tiles aren't forgiving!!!!!

I'm going to assume theat you have standard Road cranks on there? about 175mm? cant rally tell by your photos.. if so getting pista (track) crank set might help that (165mm) track bike should have track cranks on...

if you do have track cranks on ignore the above..

nice build.. looking good, many happy miles ahead i hope.

p.s you really dont need turn sharply (I has same problem on my one frame...)

Is that a titanium stem? worth a chunk of change if it is...

Time to paint... although it's not the worst colour, it's not far off.

I have no clue what stem it is, It just says Fausto Coppi on it ??

@ Tedi, was trying to make a u-turn in the shop, not succesfull...Doh!!!!

This is what I have in mind for a finished product

I just painted the frame with matte black & stuck on some stickers to see. Found my old silverback saddle, so that was cool.

Will strip it down, sandblast & have it powdercoated. Then it's just the new wheels, some white rubber &

white grips & I'm done....oh & some eggbeaters
