Ya, I must admit, 3x10 gives you everything you want.

I think this XX1 is a much better idea than 2 x 10 though. Hate changing front ring all the time.

Riding XX1 you will need to physically change the front ring for different purposes... at least with 2x10 they're both there... just need to shift away...

Eldron's opinions*:

*I have never ridden it.

Agree with Witkop - great for XCO and flattish XCM but woefully short of the right gears for XCM in Sabie/Clarens etc or "real" stage racing. Even 2x10 is too little.

Whilst a 10-42 cassette does provide a wide range it doesn't provide enough in between (big jumps between gears). That might just be me though - I use 11-32 on my 3x10 as I feel 11-34/36 has too big a jump between teeth.

Aesthecially - I just cannot accept a 42 tooth cassette - it looks stupid.

Basically it limits your choice of gears for very little advantage. The weight saving is great but will easily be outdone by climbing one long climb at too low RPM (this will destroy your legs) - chain suck? I haven't had any with my XT level 3x10. Hell I didn't have any issues with my old 3x9.

I'm a SS or 30 gear kinda guy - in between is just silly ;-)

Stupid is as stupid does - I'm building a 1x11 internally geared bike :-)

This is gonna set you back a bit , The SRAM rise wheels compatable with 11 speed with set you

back 18k at retail and the groupo 13k ( This will exclude brakes) so add 5k for world cup or R1's .

So 36 and now we only need a frame and bars and stem and grips and seat post and and and .

You mean just a single click to move the front derailer up and down is too much effort??

The cassette is a thing of beauty but man it's huge.

It does add some symmetry though - the cassette is as big as the rotor.

The chain angle looks crazy - imagine what it would look like in the 42???

The shifter is the easy part. I hate changing front rings, its a pain in the ass. It just interupts everything.

love the one piece cassette, I nearly cried when I knocked over a sram road cassette yesterday and had to hun for each of the cops and spacers that are all loose.......will make cleaning much easier.....

you much watch the videos of the derailleur in action, so clever......

Different strokes for different folks I guess, I recently changed from a 3 x 9 setup to a 2 x 10 and loving the 2 x 10.Gives me everything the 3 x 9 did and some more.
