Can anyone out there verify if this scheduled court appearance is still on for 29 Jan ?

We have posted this on twitter @bicyclesafetysa Please mention the twitter handle if there are any changes to the date or any updates.

Clerk of the court just phoned back. Geoffrey Merrick is due to appear in courtroom B at Kuilsriver but they aren't able to give a time (they start calling people up at 8:30). Will contact the Tygerburger and see if they can maybe report on it.

Perhaps taking out a 1/2 page in the newspaper - info graphics of the cyclist genocide over the last few years

Only people who will see the protest will be the other skollies waiting for their turn in court.

Also difficult to get out of work in a week morning

Is this why he fled the scene of the crime? Driving under the influence could have been the nail in the coffin for a lengthy prison sentence?

This could perhaps backfire? I've read somewhere that driving under the influence could be a mitigating factor in the sense that he didn't know what he was doing. So by not being drunk it's assumed he was at his full senses which could count against him. Only wild speculation from me reading too much, but it would be great if someone in the know can shed some light?

Your train of thought makes sense, Andy. Means if he was sober, he could / should have taken responsibility for his actions. By running away he made things worse for him.
