When I got the Zula I already put a 120mm fork on :)  it's the 27.5 Zula and got her in March this year.

erm.. I have a 45mm stem on..

will have to check bar width

I have 2.25 tyres on.. (I think.. if I can remember correctly)

Just as an indication of Zula potential, Stefan Garlicki  came 4th in the last enduro down here aboard a Zula 26er. In fact he blitzed the entire field on the longest gnarliest stage by a minute or more. Then again, he does race at WC level and could probably do the same on a hard tail.

Its more about attitude and skill than the bike. You can chuck any bike fast through a rock garden and down steep stuff but it helps to have the right cockpit and deep suspension.

Put a very short stem on your bike ( okay you already have one 45mm is perfect) and 700mm + wide bars and be ready to ride fast downhill ie pedaling whenever you can. Its far more tiring than riding uphill :-)

Well in that case, as Nigel said "just pull in"!

Forgot about the kneepads

I've very seldom felt out of depth riding local enduro stuff on my PYGA OneTen, so you'll be fine. As Nige has said, just lower your seat. It makes all the difference in the world.

Gen ... you dont need to modify ANYTHING ... just pull in ... but get some knee guards like i said in my reply in the other thread.

120mm Zula with 650B wheels a 45mm stem and 2.25 tyres is more than adequate for #ENDURO in KZN.

If you dont have a dropper post and are not keen to shell out 4k for one - jsut make sure you either have an allen key with you or a quick release seatpost clamp so you can drop your seat a bit for the race stages.

Funny you mention the dropper post.. I have been doing a lot of reading on that.. hubby has wanted to put one on for me for a while. but to be honest.. I am so clueless to which one to get, and how and what.. I would have to sit with someone that really knows that can help me lol and the LBS here in the flat lands don't have much knowledge regarding them.. (see where I am going with this.. another possible justification trip down to kzn to buy a dropper post and test it..[emoji57] )

He also actually suggested I ride with a allen key till we put a dropper post on.

I dont know the post size your frame takes but what I will do if I do get another post is:

1. get thinest diameter dropper post I can find and get a shim (piece of metal or durable plastic) to take it to the required diameter that fits your frame. This will make the post possibly reusable in other frames in the future too if you change frames.

2. Go for maximum drop! I would love a 150mm drop. Because the delta of my seat at normal riding height to the seat in the lowest it can go into the frame is more than what my current dropper drops.

3. check if your frame can have 'stealth' / internal routing for a dropper.

4. go for hydraulic not cable

5. Dont go for a post that have a set nr of incraments (some can only go max or min, some has only 3 positions)

6. Look at the mounting mechanism to the seat. I do not like those that only mount to the seat with one bolt. My seats have the 2 bar and this the dropper has that plate mounting for that. (2 bolts adjustment)

7.from nr.2 you will find you will probably have to go for the max length post (think it is 400mm or 420mm)

8. Remote control...so the button in placed on your handle bar not under the seat

9.

that as far as I now can think.. :)

I really can not see riding without one anymore. It adds great value

Gen - you spend the cash and get a Rock Shox Reverb. I know people have other favourites - but its the only one i would trust.

I wouldnt look at the stealth version (as Hayley mentioned) as I doubt the Zula has ports for the stealths remote cable. Just go for the standard post

Nice Nic ... Just dont go breaking your rear swingarm like dave did ...

Is that an issue with all SB66's? I read that it was only the pre 2013 models. I really love these bikes, might buy one soon.

Is there anything else I should know before I decide to go for it?

+1. And 30.9 Ø for the Morewood.

The Thomson droppers are also nice, I am just not so sure about local backup.

I only metioned it because she might not have known what it meant and then end up buying a stealth (might be the only one they have at places or cheaper)...it was just a point to look out for..

I however like the stealth (lucky my frame has that hole) because it is less cables to route through/pass the rear suspension which is a high possibility of BAD cable rub if not done correctly (Patches knows all about this) and also for me it is neater. :)

Ya exactly! - wasnt chirping you at all - The stelath does look much neater - but is slightly more expensive so CRC say (my LBS here said it was the same price though) ... If you have a newer frame that is more all MTN then it may have ports - but the Zula's I doubt have ...

Like you say - if you do the normal ones cable routing cleverly you wont get bad frame rub, but this is just something to check when you install it ...

All the cables on the Zula go down the underside of the downtube, so for the dropper i would get those stick on cable routers and place them under the toptube, and then through the centre of the shock mount and then up the seattube. Would look pretty neat and would be out the way

Gen. Just a few points to add to all the good advice above.

You don have to go to Kzn to buy a dropper.

The Reverb or the KS Lev are the best.

I can get the normal Reverb for R4000 from LBS.

Stealth is a bit steep at R4600

Not too long ago it was almost R800 cheaper

You are correct. . the Zula doesn't have ports for it.. I remember before I bought it it was one of those.. what a pity it doesn't have it discussion. .. but also said.. we can still make a plan. [emoji57]
