'Dale Posted May 30, 2013 Share A little bit of topic but on topic. How do you go about choosing your favourite rider? Do you have favourite riders in more than one team? I never use to like Contador as I was under the influence of Lance but the more I read up about him (suspension and all) I really think he could be the yellow jersey holder at the 100th TDF. Great question. It is a highly individual thing, that choice. For favourite team. And for favourite riders. Some criteria:The nationality and culture of a team. The brands a team use.The sense of character when a rider is interviewed..The riding style of a rider.Attacking style. The country of origin of a rider.Etc. Spartacus is my favourite, hands down! But apparently he is not taking part in the TDF. I really enjoy Sagan's style of riding and always supported the Schlecks. Cav' is a phenomenal cyclist and I wont mind him or even Evans to take the TDF, then there is Rodriguez and Uran to mention a few. I think Ill be backing Contador and Saxo bank. They are #Specialized after all.

I think he does not want to do it BUT the team might want him to so...... http://www.cyclingne...=0&ns_fee=0 "There was no need for panic for Fabian Cancellara (RadioShack Leopard) after he finished 77th in the individual time trial at the Tour of Belgium on Friday, nearly two minutes down on the winning time of world champion Tony Martin (Omega Pharma - Quick-Step)" "For me it was important to come to this race and be in a racing situation," the Swiss explained. "I need this race to get started again in racing. I will go back and do the Tour de Suisse next month and then things about the Tour will be decided later." Gambithunt Posted May 30, 2013 Share Independent of Lances issues ith him, Contador is a twat, I really hope I don't have to see him in the front of my fav tour. SwissVan

SyncSA Posted May 30, 2013 Share Fastest man on 2 wheels, but wont Ever win GC in a grand tour! But why? Is his main goal to be the top sprinter? And looking at the GC winners and runners up - how are they different? (Noob questions regarding TDF

GrumpyOldGuy Posted May 30, 2013 Share Who would be the GC wanna be then in the Omega team? Tony Martin? No, I dont think Tony is up to winning a grand tour, Omega is GC contender poor unfortunately, though from what I hear that may change if Uran joins them next year. 'Dale Posted May 30, 2013 Share Who would be the GC wanna be then in the Omega team? Tony Martin? Some teams don't have the firepower for GC contestation. These teams then opt for stage win strategies, SyncSA. True GC contenders are like rare forest animals. Not easy to find. Omega' will probably aspire to win the sprinters' jersey with Cavendish as their main weapon - the green jersey competition. 'Dale Posted May 30, 2013 Share Fastest man on 2 wheels, but wont Ever win GC in a grand tour! He's only the fastest in a 20 sec-ish burst in a straight line, Cav'. But the man sure knows how to time that burst and collect wins.
GrumpyOldGuy Posted May 30, 2013 Share So you align more with riders rather than teams? Scarponi rides for Lampre right? GC an option? Yeah, with individuals, rather than teams. Yes, Scarponi / Lampre, he had a tough Giro (finished 4th, just off the podium) and he is getting a little long in the tooth now so I dont know if he will ride both, but realistically I dont think he would be a good GC contender if he did, not now anyway, he is really a pure climber and a few years ago he would climb with 'Berto quite easily, but today races have changed and he has gotten older, I would like to see him do well tho, he is an old campaigner and, in my opinion, never really got the breaks he deserved. Been "watching" the tour for the last 2 years, so hoping this year to really watch and learn all the intricate tactics and politics etc. Should create a fred - TDF for dummies
