Strange quote from Gilbert (by the way its his birthday today)

Gilbert: "yes this could be a stage for me but I'm not allowed to try. Team not interested in stage wins."

Ouch! Is he even allowed to say that?

Seems Orica were happy to let the break succeed, Cannondale not so much. Think Sagan has this one earmarked.

yip - he wants a win and I think the team fancy their chances of getting him over the bumps.

Yeah, I think 'Berto is nursing some brilliant form but I dont expect we will see much of it yet, last week he will come out and it will be make or break time. He is not going to ride for second, thats for sure so now he will just limit his losses and save his energy - or at least thats my opinion, usually however I am completely wrong though.

Agree with you grumpy and Saxo looks formidable. Question is can he match Froome when it comes down to it and how much will be lose in the TT?

Team tactics !!

Seems like he does not agree.

Seems silly of BMC, they have such an outside chance at the GC, even with Teejay, let alone Cuddles... why not allow Gilbert to give their sponsors a day in the media where he can?

Indeed, this is a very different Saxo team to the lackluster one at the Giro, they are making a statement here riding at the front and keeping 'Berto well supported, more than anything though they appear a lot more motivated, something I never felt at the Giro.

He's hungry for a victory dance....

Pretty much Cadel's decision, I reckon.

With their time loss in the TTT, they probably far more conservative or strict in their approach.

Sounds very sore!

Prentice Steffen comments on Vande Velde's injuries

"Christian suffered his second crash in three days today and unforrtunately his injuries have forced him out of the Tour," said the doctor of the Garmin-Sharp team.

"The multiple contusions and abrasions he suffered in today's crash, compounded with the injuries he sustained [during] stage five - which included a blood clot in his neck muscle, a loosened screw in his clavicle plate and upper back injuries - made it impossible for him to finish today's stage. We'll examine him closely tonight and continue to evaluate his injuries."

Apparently Quintana fell again earlier as well... seems ok though

I see a champion GC rider in the making there.

Hope Movistar can supply the opportunity.
