I see a champion GC rider in the making there.

Hope Movistar can supply the opportunity.

Just not sure about his TT'ing... But reckon there will be few better in the high mountains

Yes, needs some development in the TT dept, I reckon.

Hope he can get a stage win in the high mountains.

I think the break will be caught by some counter attacks. I think its a nice day for some "unknown" guys to make a run for it around the 50km to go mark.. To be honnest listening to the comentary, some 10% sections might cause some break ups and there will definately be some "stragglers" at the back..

The next climb (Cat 2) could cause some damage but maybe there will be enough time for guys to get back. Interesting stage today.

I hear you... I have to fetch my sister from the airport at 4pm tomorrow - timing couldn't be worse as that should be when it fianlly goes off amongst the GC contenders... Will have to PVR and avoid radios, social media etc - and try avoid any TV's at the airport!?

Peloton splitting on the climb

The pace being set by the Cannondale team is doing damage to the peloton. Some riders, including Cavendish, Thomas, Hivert, Voeckler and about 20 others are in a group that have been dropped.

Cav more than 4min behind with 102km to go. Jens has a 1min lead back to yellow jersey group.

Greipel 2:50 off the leaders. Cannondale chasing the leaders. 4 team mates of Cav helping to drag him back.
