What about people who choose not to have those items? Are they poor? I ticked some of the boxes but nothing happens?

I'm pretty sure this is a barrier to entry for many, I'm not scared to talk up about it. If I was really "clever" I'd put that cartoon video up.The debate was about the refund policy not the cost. Until this year the entries could have been 50% subsadised by spec savers so you could have done the race for just over R2k

It's just a metric that attempts to gauge what your standard of living is based on your material possessions. Would probably be easier to ask: How much do you earn per month? I guess the logic goes: "If you can afford/have x, your standard of living is probably x". To be taken with a pinch of salt.

IM has such a meaning to it that people will sell cars to enter this event. If you haven't done it you will not understand.

Sacrificing time with family and friends, saying to after work drinks, late nights, xmas ect the least of my worries and pain would be the money I would lose out on. Its a chance you take I guess ....

Can anyone give me a calender for olympic and ultra (halfironman) races from now untill 6 april 2014. I know there is a lot of stuff in Durban PE Capetown but I'm looking for races in and around gauteng. The midland series is a bit far. Probably need to start planning the training and racing.

travisza Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 I know there is normally the Sasol cross off-road tri series around that time. Normally around 3 races, all Mtb and trail run in the Vaal areas. Sprint distance. Not sure of exact dates

Red Zone Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Super glad that I entered two days ago, I would have been seriously bleak to have missed out. Do you have to pay to be wait listed? this happens in quite a few events. If there is no fee for the waiting list no-one tell the IM organisers!

I know its a long shot, but if any entrant cannot do IM for whatever reason and are considering giving their entires back to the organisers please let me know before you do. I know of two Hubbers who are on the waiting list and would be greatful if they could do a transfer of entries to their name. Thanks!
