:offtopic: Perhaps a more interesting question, is where are all these numbers coming from? I consider my self fortunate to have an entry, but 400 entries on a waiting list out of a total field of 2000 is roughly 25%. Considering that this year didn't sell out (Think this years no was 1700), are we saying that the race has grown by +/- 700 entries?

Haven't noticed a dramatic increase in TT bikes during the weekly training rides..... Did i miss something? Or is the 10 year hype catching?

As I was saying....they've done really amazing things to increase demand despite the effective entry fee doubling without the specsavers subsidy. or in otherwords, people are just drinking the

Yes, yes, you've mentioned it before :)

But it is starting to seem like you're just bitter you can't have some of the Kool-Aid as well. The lady doth protest too much, methinks.

We get it ... you really want to do a tri one day but dont have the money. Please stop begrudging others who just want to chat about the race ect in the appropriate thread. There are tons of threads dedicated to complaining about race costs.

As I said earlier in the thread I enter when I have the money...So now I'm on the waiting list. Got on there a little late though...think when I 'registered' it said that I was number 136...I emailed Sharon this morning to check whether we can have an update or check our 'progress' on the list. No response yet.

I've also been training and will continue to do so if something becomes available. Looking at the 5% DNS figure quoted earlier I might just not make it though...Maybe the 1st 100 on the list will be lucky. Would have been my 3rd.

The 5% DNS rule is subject to most people entering only in the new year. Expect DNS carnage this time around.

Also a lot of the "waiting list" will write IM off and move on and enter other events and buy other things (over Christmas) so the waiting list will shortly become a short list....

I hope you are right Garf...I'm just worried that a lot of people will 'decide' to DNS after cut-off or simply not show up, resulting in 'wasted' entries on raceday...

Mini Hi-jack - where are you swimming? I used to swim at Fichardt Park VA but that will close today and only open in December with all people being 'redirected' to VA Northridge. It is going to get seriously crowded there...

I got a UFS swim card. Unfortunately I got the last one (yesterday)... Apparently the Fichard Park gang is moving over to the "Tjokkies" pool. Maybe you can follow up.

I am confident you will get an entry. Just try and get the funds together and set aside cuz when the opportunity arises you must be able to take it....

It's called voting with your wallet. doesn't mean the wallet is empty, but it goes elsewhere.

I don't see why I can't highlight how well the hype is creating demand, it's brilliant marketing and gets money in the bank months before race day. I expect a much higher percentage of people pulling out and their entries getting 'recycled' before race day. If there's backlash down the line about this process then I'll do my best not to be the 'told you so' guy.

Cool, thanks for the heads-up. I was also thinking of going the UFS route bit that is obviously out of the question now. I think I will try and get more flexible at work and maybe swim at lunchtime at Northridge or then check into Tjokkies.

Me too thanks...will see what I can do or where I can 'borrow'.

I'd love to do an ironman/long distance triathlon event.

but not at that price, I just can't justify it on the basis of value for money. I'm pretty sure this is a barrier to entry for many, I'm not scared to talk up about it. If I was really "clever" I'd put that cartoon video up.

ok enough from me here on this, stand by my views. Enjoy the training for all who've entered.

If it is to expensive for you thats fine - like I said the people that entered are/were willing to pay. If you feel your money is better spent elsewhere that your decision and we will respect that - why cant you do the same. Yes - we are not stoked about the refund policy but what does that have to do with they hype and excitment we are having about our priority race? Tell me the cost of the Sani, J2C, W2W ect - they are more expensive and not even the magnus opus of their calendar

What I dont understand is you came and made your point. Then came back and went on and on about it - a few people have asked you to rather drop it as we would like to discuss IM in the IM thread and not race prices. As I said there are a number of threads for this purpose.

So please help me understand why you come back here to provoke people. As mentioned your comments are usually contructive and funny so it is a disapointment to read this

ok, so this is the last feedback that i have.

As mentioned in the thread before, 1823 entries paid for (as per website).....double checked this myself. Sent sharon an email and got some feedback that there are a number of unpaid entries. They will not extend entries, so 177 entries, except for the ones paid over the last 24 hrs. They have sent out a number of emails in the last 24 hrs to people on the waiting list. I am now nr 56 on the waiting list....which means about 70 sent out.

There seems to be a glimmer of hope for me! Will keep you up to date if i have any other info.

Sorry, corection. Nr 63 on the waiting list after emails were sent out. Another 56 non payers in the last 24 hrs....which will be release. so i need another 7 non payers and i am in!!

ok, will be as constructive as possible. I do realise that people defend the ironman brand with the same loyalty as Apple customers, so it's basically impossible to criticise the race without offending people.

It's 6 months to race day? entry process is a fair topic in my view now. come March my little rant will be a distant memory.

If you're really happy to have a single iron distance race in the country that costs a fair whack to enter then good for you. I don't think I'm the only one who would like other options at a lower price point. Pretty sure other race organisers are looking to fill this gap, I think a great differentiator would be a cheaper entry alternative.

I also think the entry/refund policy is total robbery and fueled by short term greed. I wouldn't want other organisers to think this is acceptable, not speaking up about it is the same as accepting it.

Not sure exactly where the 48 hrs from 23/10 comes from. IMSA released a statement late last week or early this week that they will be releasing all non paid entries in 48 hrs as entries are sold out basically.

they now have 24 hrs to register, and then 24 hrs to make payment. Hope that you come right, as i know the feeling of not having a confirmed entry.

Not need to include sarcasim or unrelated things it just cheapens your arguement, as we are not discussing the brand, not Apple. (Join Latent in his thread for this)

Firstly you have not entered or to my knowledge even compete in triathlon (do you?). The fact that it was sold out 6 months before is probably an indicator that it is not as expensive as you are elluding to. Rather enter before complaining about the ethics of the refund policy. Stop begruding the people who actually care about the sport and prioritise it. If its not your priority that fine but why troll and mess it up for everyone else. Garf and I even contiued the discussion, in private, because this is not what the thread was about.

Secondly have you seen the accosiated cost for tri? More than the race - believe me. If I chose to drive and older car and enter IM - that my choice. Doesnt make me rich - it makes me an IM fan

Thirdly there was another organiser that came in and the pricing was the same (maybe a few rands cheaper)). Ever hear of Challenge Cape Town?

Now that the event has sold out the interest for a seond race is obvious. What organiser would want to hold a second event when the first one doesnt sell out?

We were chatting about entry process - you are b1tching about the cost. Only you. Other that have mentioned they need to save/wait ect but none said it was not fair.

If the entry fee and refund policy is clearly that important rather start a thread dedicated to that so the rest of us can enjoy talking about the race
