Or let me quantify this. If you walk at every table I don't see you doing a sub 5 hour marathon. I am planning on doing a 4 hour marathon next year. To achieve this I will need to break the 14km laps into 3..

Lap 1: 70 minutes (5 minute / km pace)

Lap 2: 80 minutes (5 minute 40 seconds / km pace)

Lap 3: 90 minutes (6 minute 20 seconds / km pace)

If I had to go out at 5min/km I would probably be crawling the last lap! Luckily I am not to phased about my time for the full. I just want to go and enjoy the atmosphere for my first one and finish well.

I will do some more reading on the run/walk strategy and see how it goes on my long training runs after 70.3

You should probably look at reversing your strategy, try starting the run off at your slower pace and then build the speed for a fast finish, otherwise you may blow up early and have nothing left to give in the second and third laps

I run well off the bike (or would like to think so).

I do keep my HR I check...

In the end different things work for different athletes. I don't like to give myself the walk option upfront cause I will then use it. I become lazy when given leeway and will walk and eat the whole lap 1 and then by the time I need to start running be bloated, puke and repeat the procedure.

I think the *** at IM is between 22 - 27km. Lap one is fine you feel ok and the crowd keeps you going. However when you hit 21km at the university then most guys ***. no support. alone, sun setting. Once you make it back to the crowds you run again and on the last lap you know it is coming to an end so that keeps you going.

I try and eat and drink right and run as long as I possibly can. Then I try and apply a run from table to table...

But then again its a long day. Maybe you feel crap off the bike???

Ok so I am enter for Ironman....the plan was to do the half next year and the full in 2015 but could not get in for the half so full here I come!

Focus for December will be my weak pionts....running and the swim. Then in January I will settle into my normal Triathlon training plan.

As previously mentioned, my cycling is my weakest discipline and running my strongest. I have been trying to focus on my cycling over the past 2 months. I am interested to hear what your cycling:running ratios are in terms of distance? Mine currently works out at about 4.5:1 and I would like to increase it to 5+:1.

Fark Garf. :eek:I am at about 30-32 and 150-160 at this stage. Maybe I am doing to little...

I don't think I will ever have the time available to consistently do your kind of kms. But I am planning to up it to 40 and 200 in two weeks time, after a relaxing recovery week next week.

I have a full time job and a 4 month old baby. The term enough time is relevant....

I train 3 times in the week and then on weekends. Make weekends count. Do a 140km bike ride on Saturday and run 25km on Sunday...

Then try and ride 2 x 30km's after work during the week if you get time and you have 200km's!

Then try and run two mornings before work (2 x 10km) and suddenly you have 45km for the week...

Don't think about it too much. Just train when you have time and the km's will quickly accumulate....

I hear you. My wife is training for her first 70.3 and we have a two year old. So time is a challenge. You are so right about weekends. Those are crucial.

I do around 250 km riding - 8 hours

40 km running - 3.5 hours or so

6 km swimming 1.5 hours

45 mins strength and conditioning

Sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less, but will ramp up the distances over the next two months until I have a decent base
