just under 5 weeks to go..

i'm down with flu at the moment, better now than race week!

I know what you're going through. I was out for the whole of last week with flu. Still got a nasty cough and phlegm.

No use crying about it, I guess. Just also happy it didn't happen in race week.

chaps (and Ladies), this weather is not cool at all..

2 weeks of heavy rain forecast.. doing 6hr+ rides in the rain is not fun, neither is sitting on an IDT for 6+ hrs..

Bufflespoort this weekend is going to be 1.9km swim leg, 90km swim leg followed by a 21 km swim leg.

I hear you. Next two is the last heavy weeks and then I start to taper.

Did a 2/3rd session in P.E. over the weekend. Wind was a bit hectic (not nearly as bad as 2012 but were reminded of it at times) and was blowing WSW at about 30km/h with some heavier gusts.

Swim went well in a choppy sea but bike was a battle, rode a full loop plus the top hill loop for 122km . Rode conservatively as my old hip and knee injuries have been acting up and tried to be fresher for the walk. Ran the first 15km or so but the rest of the 28 was done by mostly walking.Finished in about 10hours so I should be ok to finish on the day, which is my goal. Anything more will be a bonus. I have to be realistic taking my difficulties into account.

Good luck to all for the last push...

A 21KM SWIM LEG AT THE END ........ SERIOUS IRON MAN STUFF

Also....

Any thoughts of riding a disk at Ironman on the new course?

Depends on the disk. Heavy disk - no way. If you have a lightweight one, then go for it for sure.

4.5 weeks to go!!!

Coming into the last quarter of a big block... legs are moeg!

How is everyone's prep going?

I had a recovery week last week. The next 3 weeks are big weeks with some long lonely kms and then the tapering period starts. Even with the odd recovery week, I am struggling to get rid of those sore and tired legs. But I am sure this will be sorted during the tapering period. My other worry is that everyone around me has some kind of virus or cold. Now would not be the time to get sick.

Trying not to think of the next three weeks, there are some serious long rides and runs coming, just taking it one day at a time. My last rest day was 17 Jan, all I know is that I could use another, but it is unlikely to arrive before April
