@hboli4 thanks that is some good info

I think this year will be a great new challenge. The guys who will do well will be the guys who remain patient I agree. I am beginning to think that I must not go for a target time on the bike like I would have liked to but rather just do a negative split and have a good race all together. Maybe the sub11 is off the cards then unless a gentle Westerly blows.

Hi Garf,

I personally believe that is the way to go. By all means, set targets and go for gold but none of us have raced this course under race conditions. Conditions aside, I think the swim will be a bit faster (we should be able to get a better rhythm and no fighting through the waves a 2nd time with dead legs), the bike will be tougher and should be ridden conservatively and we do not know how the extra athletes on the course coupled with passing on the hills / drafting etc will pan out and the run is well, the run. As mentioned earlier, I have no lofty time goals and am there to finish. I'm going to try and experience it as for the first time and it should be a little more special being the 10th anniversary.

When you pass me, I will be the guy with the smile on my face :D

The only leg I am looking at a time is the swim - which I hope to do in 1h05. Going to ride well within myself and have accepted I will be doing a fair amount of walking and am just looking to soak it all up and enjoy the day out

I read some of the Q & A on the site from this morning...

What I do not understand is that Paul says the bike course is 20% more difficult but if conditions remain similar as in the past they expect the winning time to be only 5 minutes slower in general. These figures don't add up.

20% tougher means a guy that normally does 5 hours will now do 6 hours? I guess 20% tougher doesn't mean 20% slower....

Think he is referring to the Pro's, so who can hang in there, my guess an Uberbiker will take it this year. For us mere mortals let's get used to the fact that we are going to be 20%-30% slower.

No ways 20-30% slower... Unless you just cannot climb... Paul Wold reckons, if conditions are similar to last year, the pro's will be 5min slower on the bike. So us mere mortals maybe 20mins slower than previous years. This is my first so will still be a PB :P

So Ronnie for another win?! Another thing that will really mix up the race this year is that you wont see your rivals/friends on the cycle route like you used to.........

Will you push me on my bike while you on the run?

Was about to post the same thing.

5 min slower for the Pros will mean 8 to 20 minutes slower for the rest of us. His estimate of 20% is bluster.

Also a tougher bike guarantees a tougher/longer run afterwards even if the route remains the same.

But Dave you are probably glad the bike got made harder???

Remember race day is completely different to training.

I could never do a training ride within an hour of my race day time. The focus, excitement, rest, proper nutrition, rabbits to chase all make you way faster on race day.

I have to agree on that. Or rather hopefully it is true! I averaged 33km/hour on one 150km ride (given it was flat). Dis this mean I could look at a 05h30 bike time??
