You won't get an aero advantage uphill so which ever is the most comfortable and where you generate the most power easiest.

you can definitely get an aero advantage uphill, the amount of advantage just depends on how fast you are going.. and how much wind there is and from which direction.

I had a moerse strong headwind going up a tough climb on my ride this morning, dropping onto the tribars made a massive difference..

Agreed, if the headwind is pumping or you climb like someone who had special steak for dinner drop onto the bars.

You can definitely get an aero advantage on a climb....you've still gotta push through the air dont you? Its about minimizing the effort you have to put in to go a certain speed. If you manage to go slightly faster up the incline in the aero position for the same amount of effort why wouldnt you?

I am doing the 70.3 with a Tri bike for the first time so, what is the best position to climb those hills in EL? Stay on aerobars as long as possible or immediately sit up and slide back on your saddle?

Not all hills can be treated the same, some you want to power over in the aero bars even if you dont get much aero advantage, just because you lose a bit of momentum from changing position up and then down again. It also tires you out a bit and you can sometimes lose than comfort sweet spot.

You do generate better climbing / more efficient output sitting up so that will leave you fresher for the run, and that is they key, getting off the bike and being able to throw down some good speed, so you need to balance your efforts.

And if there is a big tailwind then don't be a dork, sit up and use that sail effect, the number of triathletes who miss out on strong tailwinds because they love to ride on the bars is crazy

Race as you have trained.

Don't try someone elses tactics on race day...

Your body will go faster doing what it is use to than trying to adapt to something else.

And to the first timers remember the sunscreen before you get on the bike. Saving those 30 seconds isn't worth it.

Absolutely, not even 30 seconds, last year they had some lovely ladies that got me sunblocked in around 5 seconds, a bit of an agricultural application, but well worth it.
