I spoke to the editor of Triathlon Plus SA in December, and he mentioned they were investigating hosting an IM distance event in Durbs probably in April 2015, and were testing the route.

 

Travelling down to Durban with the family is significantly cheaper than going to PE from Jhb, so I am keen on doing this instead of IM in 2015.

Having it in April is completely self limiting.

 

There are quite a few people who would love to do both events. To go head to head is just daft.Events need critical mass to be profitable and attractive. At IMSA, you race the best in the country, CDbn would not attract the top athletes away from IMSA and a chance at Kona.

 

Not sure TSA would sanction an April date.

 

You can even race in Durban in July - just so long as the sardines don't join the swim course with all their bigger friends.

The Durban event will have no road closures in 2014 and they replied to my email saying the date could possibly move from April to May 2014

realized today that i took the race very rustig when looking at my garmin stats.it was my first one so i did not want to bomb somewhere.go slow before you blow is normally my motto.already making plans for next year.

It is one of the great things about Ironman, is you know that almost everyone is there for something other than just athletic achievement. It really is a privilege to share the course with so many remarkable people.

 

To read their stories just makes you want to go back and do it all again.
