Want to ride your bike in the biggest Mountain Biking area in the world? 2.0

What do you reckon a 2week trip like this will cost eventually, everything included?

Less than an entry to the Epic. YES that's right!

I've done 5 trips. This year will be my 6th year straight. A trip to the Alps will completely redefine what riding a bike is for you. There is everything you could possibly dream of over there. From Hectic crazy jumps to amazing ridge line riding to incredible road riding on some of the famous TDF cols.

That's not to mention the incredible scenery, the amazing food and beers and of course 7000 other like minded people from all over the world in the same place having a blast.

I'd recommend going in a group. The guidance you get from others who've been added to the shared stoke of riding in a big crew really add to the experience. Also you'll benefit from wasting time trying to figure out where you are exactly for the first 5 days.

Next year we'll be doing our annual Alpine Addiction trip again after taking this year off so you are welcome to join. (I'm still going this year tho) I'm taking my roadie bike to see whether it's worthwhile offering road bike based trips.

All in for a 12 day trip you should budget on about 35k. That's all in and not eating 2 minute noodles but also not escargot every day. The 35k includes plane tickets, catered accommodation, airport transfers, ski lifts etc. Plus of course some beer money.

The things that kill your budget are restaurants, bike repairs, bars.

You can do it cheaper if you self cater but being able to just kick back and have a british lass bring out your dinner while you fiddle with your bike and suck on a beer is pretty damn cool IMO.

So instead of buying that Chris King ENVE wheel combo. Rather get some Hopes with ZTR Flows and do the trip. I promise you won't regret it.

The 4 CLASSIC mistakes Saffers make when not doing this trip are the following.

  1.  I need to be able to do X jump or Ykm before I go. If you wait till you attain a certain skill level you'll never go.
  2. I need a ZZZZ bike. Once I have that I'll go. The very thing you want to buy is the thing stopping you from doing the trip. Nico did the tip on an ali Stumpy with a questionable fork and had a blast.
  3. It's expensive. WRONG! It's cheaper than an entry to the Epic. And the Epic excludes flights and is for a shorter time frame. Se mah net.
  4. Bucket List. Pah. A bucket list is just a list of thing's you've given yourself permission not to do.

Hehe. I guess I had that coming.

Truthfully tho what happened was I read an article on the Dirt magazine website who said the lifts were closing on the 11th of Sept.

So based on that I booked. Aaaaaaaand the lifts are closing on the 4th. So roadie bikes it is.

But it's not a tragedy. I'm loving the road riding and those that have been will know the roads there are AMAZING and include the Joux Plane, Avoriaz and du Vuerte climbs.

I'm also thinking about offering roadie tours next year if this trip is good. Coz based on the number of Dogmas I see at the top of chappies on a Saturday morning there's no shortage of cash on the asphalt.

Day 1 we did a little recce ride. Morzine - Les Gets and up about 3/4 of the way up Chavannes. I will admit to a bit of FOMO riding past the entrance to Canyon (black) in Les Gets. The town feels very quiet but not in a horrible way. There's still lots of Enduro guys (they must be very strong) and roadies out. I love this place. It's amazing seeing it through the eyes of a first timer.
