As a runner myself I dare anybody on a bicycle, irrespective of how aggressive and self-righteous they feel, to try and take me out when I am running. I'll be totally unharmed, and you will be a crumpled mess a few meters away from your bicycle.

That said, Sometimes the risk stepping off the 'sacred black top' is just too high, and the black top MUST be shared.

Luckily I do not run on main roads. I prefer running in suburbia with lots of hills and leafy streets (Roads ignored by cyclists as there are no long open sections!).

So you are implying that running in a busy road space that's reserved for vehicles/bicycles and against the flow of traffic despite it being illegal and dangerous for you and the other legal road users is perfectly reasonable in your mind?

I may have worded things a bit strongly in that last post and I don't wish ill on runners even if they choose to act like maniacs and run in the road against the traffic , it does grate me mightily though!!

I yield for pedestrians in mixed use areas no matter how unwilling they are to share the right of way, ie both move aside to allow each other through. I also go well out of my way to not block or impede runners running in the road against the traffic because I value my life and have yet to find a runner willing to drop his pace and make a compromise so we can both have safe passage. Runners in the road typically barrel forward regardless, kings of road, willing to play chicken all in - I'm not up for that thanks. I still find it ridiculous and inconsiderate, I've often found my self having to move into the path of speeding cars to avoid runners, don't quite understand why I should be happy to find myself in that bizarre position.

I'm implying you are obnoxious and abrasive and looking for k.k that will hurt you.

And threatening to leave people in a "crumpled mess" isn't "obnoxious and abrasive"?

I wish I loved the human race.

I wish I loved its silly face,

And when I'm introduced to one

I wish I thought "What jolly fun"

I think what he was saying that the cyclist will come of worse against a runner in a game of chicken, I don't think he implied that he intentionally wants to do it.

Maybe. It was the "dare" part that seemed like a challenge to me.

Does the spruit have Strava segments? :whistling:

Overlapping segments. Hence all the aggro as none of the Spruit racer (spuiters) have any recovery sections. It is just go! go! go! go! go! Bleed through the eyes, lungs over the handlebars, no breath for a polite "excuse me", "passing left", "good morning"... Just huffing puffing racing

Makes sense. ;)

I get that, but I would also dare a cyclist try and brush me whilst I am running, I get it often from commuters and a gentle bump will get them flying, but to purposefully just go for it is not right.

I don't have a clue about Strava and how it works, but the latter part of your comment is true and it's killing the enjoyment of the spruit.

Sir crash-a-lot, who do you think will fall harder when a rider collides with a runner? Even if the rider's handlebars just clips the runner? I know I would prefer to be the runner in this situation - purely because I will get off better from the collision.

More runners have been killed by cyclists than the other way round.

Good luck with your dare.

I have personal experience in this matter and its most likely the cyclist, depends on the speed, terrain and angle of impact with the runner / pedestrian
