I lost a pair of glasses at the Knysna 200 over the weekend, glasses in helmet vents when I took a tumble and they came loose. I was told by the insurer that I needed to fill out the form and get a quote for a replacement pair. Specialized no longer made glasses so I was told by my LBS that Rudy project was the closest alternative, the insurer said that it was fine that I use this quote. The quote given was for R2395 while my original Specialized cost me R1195. I send the form and quote in and my insurer came back saying that I would be paid R900 (R1150 less R250 excess). I am actually quite happy with this but as this is no where near enough to replace my lost pair I was wondering if this was fair?

I've just been through this while looking for insurance for such items - I was quoted R40/month to insure my R4000 prescription Raybans by Outsurance, but that is out & about cover.

My All Risks covers any bike up to a value of R10,000 and any of my cycling kit including wheels etc as long as the value of each item does not exceed 25% of my All Risk cover with out having to be specified. Eg. R100,000 all risk cover-no single item to exceed R25,000 if a claim is submitted.
