Folks - just a warning that one of our club riders was attacked by two guys on the R102 near the section where it goes under the Baden Powell Drive bridge. He took some knocks, but luckily got away without any really serious injuries. He reported these as viscous thugs though - so everyone please be careful around that stretch, and preferably don't ride it solo.

Worse still was the attitude of Somerset West police who refused to take a statement because nothing had been taken, despite the fact that this was clearly a crime of assault even without the attempted theft too. Whoever was on charge that day was a disgrace to the SAPS I'm sad to say.

Not good news . Your friend must get the officers details and report him . He has to take a statemunt does not matter what the situation . The police are trying to get rid of these useless oxygen thiefs (good luck to them) but we need to report matters like this .

Yep - the club has a long-ish FB thread where a few of us suggested that also. Like you say, it only takes a couple of lazy/bad cops to spoil the efforts of the good guys.

If this is the road going to Eerste River, there have been a few issues there before. Seems to be a Hot Spot

On a side note, would that not fall under Eerste River Police Station?

Eish...glad your friend is ok.

This is why the crime rate has dropped according to the stats.People are chased away when they want to open a case

I friend of mine was robbed and the SAPS wouldn't open a case as she couldn't id the guys. They gave her a no to use for the insurance.

If at any time the Somerset West SAPS does not co-operate, please report it immediately to the local CPF and/or the Helderberg Ward councilors:

Its such a bummer with all the attacks on that section and I've given up my Sunday ride through that area as a result.

Yip, an old 'hot spot'.

Tankman also got whacked on the head there with a baton or something during a hi-jacking attempt.

2011, I think.

Ja, the bike thugs have invaded here also now. My gardener's bike was taken from him 3 weeks ago. That was his 4th bike he lost, and the last one was my old Giant ATX880 that I sold to him with new tyres for R500. He was heartbroken. Also in Somerset West in Victoria Road.

That is truly crap. I'm guessing most of us on here have insurance, and it's the personal injury aspect that's the bigger concern. To a gardener or handyman though, it's his transport to and from work which he depends on. That makes me heart sore
