Freedom trail route tour

Leaving town hall on 6am on the 27th Dec. Going the distance to Rhodes.

All these pics of guys pushing bikes is worrying me a bit. We have some serious novice riders in the group, and I promised them the bare minimum of portages except into Vuvu and Lahana's pass.. Ah well, what doesn't kill them..

Think about leaving from the City Hall - I know it's sentimental etc but they are busy paving the road in front of the City Hall so it is actually closed off with no through road for vehicles (we had to ride around the back of the building on our bikes). If there's vehicles dropping riders off etc, this won't work. I'd meet at a local garage and ride past if the Hall if you must (what we did). Basil Bure Engen is a good spot just down the road on Commercial Road (opp Parklane Spar) - then you can ride up from there.

We were told there would be minimal portaging on the first three days and that it really comes into play there after... you should probably make the riders aware of this. For me, there was plenty portaging in the first three days - would hate to see whats after that... well... we're going to in April  .

Much appreciated, was completely unaware of the roadworks, will adjust logistics accordingly and do the drive by as suggested.

Of our group of 10 riders, I suspect only 2 or 3 will able to ride EFI, the rest will be doing 40-50km days, which will still mean about 5h in the saddle, so they'll have enough time to manage some forgotten portages etc.

Hopefully we'll be blessed with some hot weather so the marches before Queen's Mercy and out of Ntsikeni is semi rideable. If not, then just more adventure.

I'm so looking forward to it.

Enjoy... How far are you guys going? 3 days can get you to Rhodes if you're fast!

Ryan, are you doing the R2R in April? Im pretty keen to come up and fine tune the bit before Centakow, the part following the river near Matat and the forest bit before the Ntsikeni entrance at night.... You planning on doing a route scout I can maybe jump on and show you a trick or 2?

Oh, the portages up to VUVU and up Le Hannes pass are brutal.. There are a couple near the ghost house/italian mural house as well that are a killer. Just put your head down and trap trap trap!

We're heading back in Apr to complete the R2R (Geln Edward onwards) before we do the full R2R mid year. We've just done the Hella Hella and Nstikeni sections. You're welcome to join us though...

Howzit, are you doing race2rhodes 2014, in June?

We going to try do glen Edward to Rhodes in April, before the r2r in June, so we would have done the whole distance before the actual race. We great if you joined us for route scout. U riding ss or gears?

Hey Percyzn

My plan was to try to do the whole Freedom Challenge in 12 days on the rigid SS in 2014.... I would love to come up and do the route scout with you guys. I need to get some sections down pat so I can do them from memory in the dark. I can also show you a trick or 2 on the Vuvu hike and the tenana mission section and a couple more....

I will likely be on the SS but for purpose sake I dont mind bringing the geared bike for the scout.

If you guys are racing just to Rhodes you will probably want to do the night scout as well......

PM me or email me with details and we can chat. Would be very cool

I believe the roadworks is complete, so you can now ride past front of city hall.

12 days RASA is huge respect. Look forward to doing the 3 day scout with you. Some night scouts sounds like a plan, so we have it sorted for June.
