I use the fly over from the N12 to N3 North regularly, and every time I look at the path running up Linksfield Ridge behind the dam in Gillooly’s Farm and I always wonder if it is rideable??

My son used to run up it whilst at school, doing cross country training, and believes it is too steep.

Has anyone done it or do you think it is doable? It is really starting to work on me!!

Never. There used to be a DH race down there and most chaps couldn't ride down portions of it. So to ride up would be impossible.

If you do manage to ride UP that hill I will call you Sir. That would be a feat worth watching. Riding down is possible and there is access from the opposite side on tar.

Be warned, there have been many reports of muggings on that walk up the ridge.

I have ridden up from the King David side and seen mountain bikers up there on the other side of the fence. This probably doesnt help anyone but they must have got up there somehow.....

Can you ride along the ridge?

If you get to the top on the king david/tar side you can climb up the stone stairs and head left. There is/was a trail that ends at the back of the dam. Rideable with only one dodgy rock swtich section.

I haven't been there in 10 years but it should still be there....

Thanks Eldron, I looked on Google Earth and see the track - looks well used, probable an escape route for all the muggers etc.

Sadly yes.

It was great for hill intervals - climb up the tar - giggle on the way down the dirt. Repeat. Repeatedly!
